Alright, Destiny thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, what do you think about family businesses? Would you want your children or other family members to one day join your business?

My mom and I went into business together! Together we have opened Premier Paws. It has been wonderful getting to work with her day in and out. She has always been my best friend and strongest support system. I know we both care for this business and are able to do what needs to be done together. It has given us a new way of communication and a new passion that we can grow together. Its always nice to know I will never have to face a challenge alone!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Hello! My name is Destiny and I am one of the owners of Premier Paws! From the time I was 16 years old I knew I was meant to work with animals. My first job was at a local shelter and I was able to see the need we have for rescue animals. I specifically saw the need for grooming. I would see dogs of all types come in with matted fur and sometimes brown from all the mud. This led me to pursue grooming. I was able t0 learn and grow my craft. Now I am one of the proud owners of Premier Paws! We offer all types of services for your dogs! From nail trimming, to hair cutting, we got you covered. We have built a very talented staff that are all continuously learning and passionate about the craft of grooming. We have a few groomers who specialize in hair dying and are learning how to start creative grooming. If you want your pup to have a bright blue tail, or candy corn ears, we can do it! It is all safe and vegan friendly with products made specifically for animals. We are all passionate about building relationships with not only the owners but also the dogs. We work with each and every dog that comes into our salon and give tips and tricks on how to make the process smoother and more comfortable for the clients and their pets. Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I believe talking honestly and openly with our clients is was sets us apart from other salons in our area. We pride ourselves in working with every dog that comes into our salon, even the difficult ones. We work hand in hand to build trust and have over all great clients who are able to work with us even if it takes a few weeks or months. This has helped others learn to trust us and helped build our reputation.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?

Communication, Communication, Communication! The biggest tool we use with our managing team and staff is communication. Being open with them and also asking them regularly if there is anything they need to help them in the work place. Explaining to them why we do what we do rather than just expecting them to know. Also listening to all the suggestions they have to help. This helps make the staff feel heard and supported and lets them enjoy coming to work.
