We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Destinee Mackin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Destinee below.
Destinee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Deciding to enter a pageant was the biggest risk I had ever taken. The uncertainty was terrifying: would I win, or would I not place at all? Unfortunately, I didn’t place either time, but the experience was invaluable. I learned so many important lessons and gained a level of confidence I never had before.

Destinee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a high school sophomore, I am an aspiring model and actress. I am also on the varsity cheer team, a sport I’ve been dedicated to since the fourth grade.
I am proud of how far I have come in life, especially after overcoming significant challenges. I lost my father to gun violence when I was six months old and later watched my mother battle—and survive—cancer. These experiences taught me to be strong and to never take anything for granted.
My passion for fashion led me to the modeling industry, and I am confident in my ability to thrive as a model.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My journey is driven by my goal to become a high-fashion model, working with different brands and walking the runway. Ultimately, I aspire to work in television, whether on a show or starring in my own reality series about life as a model.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most important lessons I had to learn was that I can’t win everything. I was truly disappointed when I didn’t place in the pageants, especially because I had been so confident I would. However, the experience taught me that I still have more to learn and that it’s important to graciously congratulate the girls who won.
