We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful D’essence Romero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with D’essence below.
Alright, D’essence thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Since the tender age of 11, the dream was to be on national terrestrial radio as a radio host, which then evolved into a TV Personality with the dream of having her own syndicated televised nation-wide variety talk show. Radio/ TV were her best friend being that she was the only child, it was her escape into a world of entertainment like no other. Radio allowed her to hear her favorite personality bring an artist/ celeb to light- someone that was able to become friends with her favorite singer or group as she would lock herself in her room. She would pick up a “play” microphone and sing away as if she was the singer, if the radio was not on- D’essence would pretend to host her own live show on her camcorder. She was always fascinated with celebrities and music.
Fast Forward, Dessence created her own path with fulfilling her longtime dream. She graduated from Long Island University with a BA in Communication with concertation of Media, applied for the radio station on campus the very 1st chance she got as she walked onto campus for the 1st time ever, she was excited for college but more excited to actually sign up and have her own afternoon 1 hour radio show on school campus. She continued to obtain her degree and graduated. She went on to intern, to partake in many episodes of Direct Effect on MTV so she can get some exposure and network with MTV staff. She was eager for this to become her reality, but reality took over- she needed a job that paid, she got into a relationship, she had to move out on her own and grow into a woman. There were a few years, she let the dream go to set up her life. A few years later, the fire and the need for D’essence returned! She has been nonstop since! Creating her brand, her following, content, reputation and network of amazing influencers that she met in the business that supported the D’essence Show.
D’essence, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I never paid for followers, EVER. I let it grow naturally and steady! I know most of my followers. I never got caught in the act of doing tradeoffs for followers. I constantly was on IG — it was my way of conducting business for my show, to connect with my followers, I was posting every day, I created #GetInLine and posted up #GetInLine rants every Wednesday to engage followers. I promoted other brands, businesses and artists. The guest who was on my show and got interviewed would re post or post photos of them on the show which created more traffic to my page and more connects with individuals for the show. I used IG as a tool to network with managers and the actual guest, it worked great for me then and now! Post, Post! Share stories & reels.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My whole story of becoming and staying true to D’essence is Resilient! I am a resilient individual in my personal life- I stay true to myself, humble, consistent and work hard. I love what I do, amazed of how much I actually accomplished personally and creatively. I always stood in my lane, hence my hashtag #GetInLine. I never gave up whether I felt I was not getting as much recognition, overlooked or honor for what I was bringing to the table and to my Bronx community. I never lost the vision of the end goal. Covid got in the way and detoured me some, plus moving to a new state is a process in its own– Life may take over, but my passion will never die when it comes to radio/ tv!
