We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Desiree Sanchez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Desiree thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
I actually have many customer success stories! Doing what we do we come across alot of clients wanting proposals. We have some that know exactly what they want, and then some who have no idea and that’s when I step in and offer different ways we can go about it. We have many consultations, emails, calls, text messaging back and forth until we get it planned out. We want every single set up to be absolutely perfect! We want it to match the vision the client wants. We go above and beyond to bring the clients visons to life. We even have times when the client gives us total creative control as they trust our judgment and taste.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Desiree, but people call me Des or Desi. I’m the owner of a luxury picnic and events company called Dfw Urban Picnics we are based in Dallas and we service Dfw and the surrounding areas. We aren’t your typical old fashioned picnic though no, we elevate that experience.
With a low setting table, glassware, gold utensils, beautiful florals, candle settings, cozy pillows and more!
We even have a list of add ons you can add on to your set up like painting, games, picnic food, and party decor, and even a bubble canopy.
We host it all birthdays, proposals, babyshowers, date night, brunch with the gals, anniversaries whatever the occasion we got you!
How did I get into this type of work?
I always had a thing for picnics and a thing for parties! I woke up one day and just told myself go for it! Life is too short to not do what you love.
Did I quit my fulltime job? No I did not as we all need a safety net when starting a new business, but I am hoping to do picnics full time in the future that is the goal here, to let go of the 9-5.
We have been in business for about 1 year now I’m so very proud of my little business as it has been more successful than what I imagined I remember being afraid I wouldn’t even get 1 client and now we have worked with about 47 clients so far, we have met so many beautiful and kind humans, and we have seen so many suprised faces, happy tears, smiles, giggles, hugs, and kisses. That is why I do what I do, the reactions, just knowing we were a part of a core memory for our clients. We love, love and we love to celebrate it.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I personally used my own savings, I bought all the basics I knew I needed, and from there as we would get bookings we would use a certain percentage of the profits and put in back into the company to keep building our inventory, and eventually we got all we needed to successfully set up for a certain amount of people. No loans or credit cards needed, always start off small in this type of work and have the profits help build you up that is crucial in your first year of business.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Social media! I always follow my clients and I interact with them as much as I can, and when we have events we always reach out to past clients first via email. All my past clients hold a special place in my heart for trusting us with their special occasion.
