Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Desiree Klaus. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Desiree, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’ve taken. 2 big risks in my life, the most recent one was in April of 2021, when I decided to quit my 9-5 job as a Insurance Agent that I had been at for 2yrs. It actually started in 2019, when I started blogging I was working towards featuring women of color who owned small businesses. I did that for 6mos. In January of 2020 is when I decided to take it to the next level, but it was only after I had a special interview with Melissa Cervantes aka currently AEW Women’s Wrestling Champion, she gave me an opportunity at the time to interview her and it changed my life. She has been a part of my inspiration to take the risks in my life, if I had not interviewed her I don’t know exactly where my journey would have led to. In January of 2020 when I started Let’s Vámonos I honestly hadn’t even thought about quitting my 9-5pm I know I wanted to feel it out and see what I was capable of. Unfortunately Covid did challenge me to pivot but to not give up, my dreams were not completely demolished but I had goals. So when January of 2021 came around I knew right away that the 9-5 space was no longer for me. I had originally wanted to leave in June of 2021 but as the months passed by I became restless and said screw it! I’m doing this now! Which happened to be April 2021! Now over a year later I have grown so much as well as my brand. I’m much happier these days, even though I’m working harder and also never know what each day is going to be like. I have faith in myself and in my faith to guide me thru this next chapter of my life. If I hadn’t taken this risk, I don’t know how happy I would be and as you get older being happy is definitely on the priority list.

Desiree, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So one of the questions I get asked frequently is where do I get my confidence from. Honestly, when people would ask me I really wouldn’t know what to say. But one day while browsing IG memes I came across a quote that stated “God gives me the Confidence” and that statement really resonated with me, a memory of my childhood of when God gave me the confidence came up when I was 9yrs old I had asked to be a lecturer and read scripture at my church. It was something I really wanted to do, and I did that all the way to adulthood. I realized that God had given me the opportunity to build my confidence by speaking in public and that I had been practicing almost all my life. So when people want to know what’s led me to this point it’s truly been God, he’s been the catalyst of my journey and giving me all the tools I’ve need to accomplish all that I have so far. Therefore connecting with people sharing my energy and also giving those a sense of confidence as well by doing what I do, I tell them I didn’t become this person overnight or just over the last 2yrs it’s taken me 30yrs. So what I want people to take away is that focus on what you love the most and do what gives you the most confidence in yourself. Let’s Vámonos is about sharing that inspiration to others all while advocating for the community and promoting small businesses. Currently we are looking for Sponsors for our episodes to be able to continue to grow our community & audience.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
So the first of this year I read the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, it truly has been great pillars that I have added to my life currently. I highly recommend anyone to read it, the four agreements is not about perfection but really about being conscious about what we say, do and how we live in this life. For me Social Media has been a tool to really highlight these new concepts but when it all comes down to it communication is best tool of all!

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One of my main missions is to give a platform for those who don’t have a platform to share their voice, or feel misunderstood or maybe just sidelined. Being a Latina, our voices even til this day are sidelined, I want people to know that I’m no longer going to wait to be invited for an opportunity that I’m going to create them on my own, not just for me, but all LATINAS who feel like there are no opportunities, no voice, no outlets! The more I can inspire those to share their voice I know that one day our voice will not seem so insignificant and that being a part of the conversation is just one piece of this puzzle.
