Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Desiree Hill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Desiree, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
One of the biggest values that I learned from my parents was the power of community. They didn’t preach it, they lived by it. Our home was always open, and everyone knew they belonged. It is a place of people, laughter, music, food, and stories. It was just second nature to them to make space for others. They showed me that love isn’t just something you give to family, it’s something you extend to neighbors, friends, or even strangers. And not just monetarily, but through time, love,e and the willingness to make room for others. That kind of home teaches you something deep: that you are not alone, and that being part of something bigger than yourself is both grounding and sacred.
Watching them uplift and connect people left a deep impression on me. It became part of my DNA. It showed me that community is both a safety net and a springboard. You begin to understand that your presence, your time, your energy, your love can help someone feel seen and supported. Communities need people like that…people who create space, who bring folks together, and who remind others what connection feels like. Those are the people who help communities heal, grow, and thrive.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Desiree Hill, and I am the founder and curator behind The Vibes Spot, a boutique and collaborative hub that celebrates handmade artistry, culture, and connection. At its core, The Vibes Spot seeks to honor creativity in its most authentic form and to create meaningful opportunities and products for independent artists to shine.
The Vibes Spot specializes in curating handcrafted goods made in collaboration with artists and independent creatives. Many of our collections are inspired by culture, storytelling, and heritage, and each collaboration is choosen for quality and vibe.
That belief in community is the heartbeat of The Vibes Spot. We are here to be more than just a boutique. We build real relationships with small businesses and honor the artistry of handcrafted goods. For the community, it’s an invitation into something deeper… a connection to support artistry through intention. Building bridges between artists and the people who will cherish their work.
Creating space for artisans isn’t just about putting products on display; it’s about honoring their process, valuing their time, and amplifying their voices. Here, we like to slow it down and celebrate the hands, hearts, and histories behind each piece. My goal is to collaborate with artists like they are family, because that’s what community does. We ask about their stories, support their growth, and create opportunities for their work to be seen, valued, and paid for what it’s truly worth.
My parents gave me the blueprint, and now I’m building on it through culture, creativity, and connection, one vibe at a time.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Put the respect back into the artsists’ name.
First, and foremost, we need a shift in mindset around what value, luxury, and artistry really mean. For too long, handmade work has been seen by the masses as secondary, something “cute”, “crafty”, or just a hobby”, while mass-produced designer brands are praised as the standard of luxury. The shift is to see both equally. Real luxury is about intention, craftsmanship, story, scarcity, and the hands behind the work. That’s exactly what independent artists and creatives bring to the table every day.
We need to start seeing a hand-beaded necklace, a hand-poured candle, or a custom crochet piece as just as luxurious if not more, than something pulled from a factory line. True exclusivity is found in one-of-one, not mass production. That means paying people fairly, giving more visibility to independent artists, educating consumers on the power of buying handmade, and integrating artistry into the community.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, it’s the freedom to fully be myself. As an introvert, creativity has always been my safe space; my way of speaking without having to say a word. I’m someone who feels deeply, but I don’t always want the spotlight. I also value deep and meaningful relationships as opposed to surface-level connections. I’ve found a way to express myself, build and connect a tribe that feels like home. Through The Vibes Spot, I get to build a space where that kind of connection and self-expression is celebrated.
