We were lucky to catch up with Desiree Blount recently and have shared our conversation below.
Desiree, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The mission of Indigo Botanica is to extend mindful lifestyle practices that I have learned to others that may resonate. This all stems from my upbringing, which mirrored a lot of minority women, especially those who weren’t seen as normal due to societal standards. Growing up, I was extremely overweight, as well as having a lacking in mental & emotional health awareness and support. Through my own life experiences, I have been able to learn how to produce products and instill practices into my daily routines that made my overall mental, physical, spiritual and emotional health. My experience as a mother is also helping me to expand my services to help families and to also help to develop children from a young age.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my business in 2020 after about four years into my self-discovery journey. At this time, I was fresh out of college and also going through the Covid era, so I was really looking at where I wanted my life to go moving forward, as I always knew that I wanted to own a business, but being good Chef and an herbalist I wanted to do something that was outside of the traditional kitchen.
While my brand does offer spice blends that incorporate my Chef background, I wanted the focus to be on the whole body and spirit- so this means that my brand incorporates products and services that will help to benefits your physical health as well as your spiritual mental and emotional health.
What I have loved about this journey so far with my brand is the impact that I’ve had with the people that I have serviced. For me a business is not about just making money, it is about positively impacting those that patron in your business, as well as dropping seeds into their lives that flourish into plants that they can use for themselves. I’m a big proponent on lead people to find what is intentional and works for themselves, not just selling a product or service.
Being multifaceted means that there are parts of my brand that may be deemed risqué, however, these are also beneficial to the healing of a collective. Through this business, I have learned to be comfortable with addressing the uncomfortable topics that allow our people as a collective to be able to identify our route traumas and to begin to correct them so that we can in a more freeing state.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When is a time that I had to pivot is a great question because that is what I’m currently experiencing. I have recently had to move back to my home state, this time being without my son. This has been one of the biggest pivots of my life because being a mother from a distance is very challenging to say the least. However, this time has allowed me to truly focus on addressing those childhood and root traumas while having the chance to elevate myself. This time has been very important to me because it’s helped me to reframe my mind and change my perspective on how I can view situations. This has helped my business as I have also been exploring a pivot in my business, where I am looking to incorporate more sacral, healing, and elements into my business. Even though those elements may be deemed risqué Or can be judged or policed by society, It is still a very integral parts of us as spiritual beings having this human experience, and I have a full confidence that like the other parts of my business this part will reach the people that it truly resonates with.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me is good old-fashioned face-to-face. While we do live in an era of social media, The Internet is flooded with influencers and entrepreneurs & business owners alike all trying to gain clientele. It may sound cliché or corny, but there is something that in person connection will never lose and that is that closeness- I always find that some of my most impactful experiences with clients and customers has come from us being able to share a story, face-to-face us being able to connect and shared experiences- Those are the moments that I find most healing and make the business worth it
