We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Desiree Blackshear a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Desiree, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

I created Women’z Women DownTravel Group in 2019 after the birth of my daughter in 2017. Throughout my adult life I always enjoyed traveling domestic and international. Once I become pregnant I keep telling myself I didn’t want to loose that part of me in becoming a mother. I took some time to get adjusted to motherhood then I was ready to start back traveling. In becoming a mom we sometimes loose ourselves and just focus on that one aspect of our lives. While working thru the adjustment of motherhood I wondered how many women just needed to wind down from their everyday life but was to busy to plan a trip, girls night , brunch or maybe they just didn’t have friends that wanted to do the same things. That is how women’z wine down came to past. We are a Women’z travel group that focuses on the self-care of the everyday women that needs to Wine Down from her busy life. Our focal point is Traveling, Networking & Community Service.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I originally became a travel agent back in 2015 when I started my event planning business Moments of Purpose. I wanted to have the knowledge to offer my client’s destination weddings as an option. I planned serval destination weddings as well as large group travel for my clients. As life transitions for me I decided to retire my event planning hat. That’s when I was able to focus Women’z Wine Down which was just an idea. As the years have progressed I’m so honored to have played apart in many women going from complete strangers to building last friendship and memories all from join my group. We currently offer 3-4 trips a year, we offer outings so women can meet up and just wine from their week, as well as our community service project like food drives, coat drives & backpack giveaways. We will have expanded our brand to the merchandise side. We have tshirts trucker and swim attire. This group is for all adult ages no matter what point of life you may be in this group will welcome you with open arms.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I had to make a pivot in 2020 during the time of COVID. I was a full time event planner and I had just started Women’z Wine Down. As our life shut down before our faces I made the decision to close my event planning business and just focus on Women’z Wine Down. It was a very hard decision as I had been in business for 5 years. Looking back it was the best decision for my family, my current business and for me because this business is so for filling and I love being able to help the next women in their journey thru life.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

The members of my group is my best source for new clients. Once you experience a trip or outing with us my members go back and tell their friends. They constantly post on social media while we are experiencing our trips which reaches an even bigger audience than I can reach alone. When it’s all said and done my members have been a driving force of how my business has grown.
