We were lucky to catch up with Designs by Lamé recently and have shared our conversation below.
Designs by Lamé, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
Im in the process of starting over with my new business Designs by Lamé
Pronounced “lah-may” from the French word for a sheer fabric and one of my favorite fabrics especially in silk form. Iv been running under my other business Lamesk8 but have been in the rebranding process with Lamesk8 to work as a creative director account while restarting a new company with Designs By Lamé to stamp my place in fashion world. Iv also learned being able to patent my work is more important as a designer then putting out as much work as I can and want to insure my work will always be mine and to not let myself get discouraged when my designs show up on fashion week without my approval AGAIN because there’s more I can do to insure my placement in this world of fashion as it is cut throat but I hope my story helps upcoming designs and creatives

Designs by Lamé, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Designs by Lamé is a my new business adventure and I plan to blend the best of all of my business adventures into something any genre can respect and learn from in the world of creatives mostly through fashion concepts and using my creative director skills including some projects I’m excited to announce soon.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
As far as my personal journey for funding goes this isn’t my first business adventure but being able to use my previous resources and learning experiences either by using my passive income like Turo is a great example to anyone that has a car or a few to be able to rent out to start new business adventures including having other income opportunities that are technically considered independent contracting work but no shame to anyone that has to take on a temporary 9-5 to fund your dreams. Iv had plenty of 9-5 jobs then I ended up leaving when they got in the way of my opportunities.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My social media journey I can say has been an emotional journey to where I am today which is starting over. Iv been in the reels bonus program until it was taken out in 2022 which helped gained my audience but right now I’m not focused on views and going “viral” because my plan is to use my social media platforms as virtual portfolio so I can go back to a more community approach and not be as stressed as I have been-I understand the world is surrounded by media and for businesses to have to have that media presence but the pressure that it has put on myself let alone other businesses I can say is not setting a healthy environment which is putting even more pressure on our teens to have the “perfect Pinterest lifestyle” and I want to set an example that it doesn’t matter how many views you have that you’re still successful as a business owner to your life is just as fulfilled with or without the views and hope to see more healthy relationships with social media as it grows.
