We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DeShayla Cisero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with DeShayla below.
DeShayla, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Joy Code came to me as a divine download after earnestly seeking the answer to what is my purpose vocation and mission I am meant to fulfill. I can vividly recall the day in July 2019 during my 45-minute commute to work, I received the business name along with the blueprint of what the business and brand will encompass. Immediately upon arriving to work, I took a few moments to write it all down and begin the process of digesting what I was being called to create. I felt invigorated, elated, and a sense of peace washed over me as I finally had the answer to my question. I knew immediately it was a worthwhile endeavor because all of my professional and personal experiences were an integral part of the process of preparing me for my purpose work. I was also keenly aware of the fact that I have always had a natural disposition of being a joyful person and bringing joy to others. Joy Code is a personal transformation coaching program with a niche focus on cultivating sustainable internal joy throughout the process. This unique approach to personal coaching is helping people restore their inner joy and tapping into joy is vital given the current societal landscape.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Joy Code has an accompanying blog (Joy Journal) on the website and podcast (Joy Code Podcast) with the intention of providing additional free coaching insights as well mental nourishment.
In addition to being a Coach, I have a successful career in technology as a Certified Software Developer and Agile Product Manager. My highest intention is to help you actualize your greatest self and give you the tools to continuously nurture your joy.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Throughout my career journey I have encountered several pivots that at the time did not make sense until I fully transitioned and made it to the other side. My degree and fields of study are in Communication and Marketing. My career took off as a PR Practitioner and Digital Marketing Coordinator initially until I hit a career ceiling early. Once I hit that ceiling, I knew it was time to pivot and the transition into technology as a Software Developer followed next. However, in the interim after becoming certified I served as a Financial Wellness Counselor. I knew eventually after becoming a Full Stack Developer I wanted to combine my communications background with my technical skills to become an Agile Delivery Lead. I have fully transitioned into Agile Delivery Leadership and Product Management. The lesson in all of these pivots is to embrace the fact that your path is not meant to be linear as there are many skills and passions within you. Sometimes those passions have to be ignited by a life change or necessary pivot. I can assure you that it all comes together for your good. Everything I learned throughout my pivots are skills and insights I utilize in my coaching business. Clients can choose from 1 of the 4 Joy Zones (Personal, Spiritual, Financial, Professional) to focus on transforming; which are areas I have extensive experience in.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
All capital for Joy Code has been completely self-funded thus far by using funds earned from my 9 to 5 work. Currently in the process of applying for business grants to supplement for additional capital needed to invest, scale, and maintain the business.
