We recently connected with DeShawna Jones and have shared our conversation below.
DeShawna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
As a business owner and a full time employee in corporate America, I often struggled with finding a balance between working full time and growing my business. In most cases when I did have time, I would spend majority working in my business rather than working on my business. Working in my business for me looked like working with clients, attending meetings with clients, and performing tasks related to services for my client. I soon realized that I needed time to myself where I can work on my business, meaning updating my website, updating my business plan, cash flow projections, creating content, and more. I called this my CEO Workday session. In these sessions, I created an agenda for myself to get work done and captured content all at the same time. Some of my business friends joined me and we helped create content for each other, exchanged resources, helped each other with tasks, and really elevated our productivity.
These intimate CEO Workday sessions led me to the idea of extending the invitation to the public. The CEO Workday Group came to be the creative space for entrepreneurs to cowork, network, learn, and create content.
I felt like this was the greatest opportunity because entrepreneurship can be a lonely road. Some people like myself, don’t have entrepreneurial family members or even friends, so the CEO Workday Group provides community and a sense or understanding. Plus, you get to create content for your social media platforms at the sessions as well! It’s a perfect concept to boost your productivity, create content and learn new things essential to your business.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Absolutely! I’m thrilled to introduce myself and share my journey with your readers.I found my passion for event planning in the midst of curating an event to promote my first business. In college, I started an e-commerce business where I sold hand made jewelry to make some cash and support my social life while in school. I curated an event to promote my business and included other local entrepreneurs in the space as well. In the process of curating that event, I fell in love with the idea of bringing businesses together to increase awareness and brand exposure. From there, I dove headfirst into honing my skills, soaking up knowledge, and immersing myself in the industry landscape. Whether it was through formal education, mentorship, or hands-on experience, I was determined to carve out my path in the event planning field.
In terms of what I offer, my services are designed to strategically increase a businesses visibility through brand launches, workshops and community events. Furthermore, I offer the CEO Workday Group to provide a productive, creative and fun coworking space for entrepreneurs to work on their business, learn from industry experts, network, collaborate and create content.
My goal is always to exceed expectations and deliver tangible results for my clients and CEO Workday Group members. What sets me apart is my unique strategies to help entrepreneurs develop event proposals, create and build a loyal community, and increase their brand exposure. Whether it’s my unwavering commitment to client satisfaction, innovation, and excellence or my ability to deliver under pressure/think outside the box/anticipate client needs, I believe these qualities truly set me apart.
I’m most proud of the amazing partnerships and connections I’ve made throughout Baltimore and the grants I’ve won, which exemplifies the dedication and passion I bring to my work. It’s a testament to the relationships I’ve built, the challenges I’ve overcome, and the impact I’ve made in this industry.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want them to know that my work ethic is my greatest asset and skill. I’m excited to continue pushing boundaries, creating impactful work, and forging meaningful connections along the way.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Although I don’t have many followers on Instagram, I’m proud to say that I grew my following naturally and in the most organic way. I didn’t buy any followers or spent money on social ads. I created organic content, used relevant hashtags, and utilized all the pillars to grow my following to what it is today.
My advice is to find your voice, your brand personality and be authentically you. The people who are meant to be your audience will find you and support you all the way through.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been networking events, participating in cohorts and accelerator programs. Whether it’s through word-of-mouth referrals, networking events, digital marketing efforts, or cohorts, this approach has consistently yielded high-quality leads and resulted in successful client engagements. I’ve found that meeting your ideal client in the space you see and want your business to be in, has been the cornerstone of my client acquisition strategy.
