We were lucky to catch up with DeShawn Weekly recently and have shared our conversation below.
DeShawn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
I received my first client back in 1994 I was a college student attending a university in Oklahoma and several of my close friends and myself decided that we wanted to write a proclamation about my loved one that had passed away. And because of that it led to several other proclamations in my past and in my future
DeShawn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What I used to get a lot and sometimes I people ask me questions why do you write proclamations. What is a proclamation how can I afford a proclamation is it something special. The purpose of a proclamation is to acknowledge your community service or any extracurricular activity that you’re involved in you want to get special recognition for it. And so that is the reason why I write proclamations is to provide the client with an opportunity to receive information on a state govern level and opportunity for them to have their day their own special day in the president in the future.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Most definitely there are resources that I wish that I had access to many years ago 20 years ago. It would be the fact that we have Google at this time we have several books and literature we have coalitions now we have different asthma asthma web pages that are acknowledging and looking up asthma

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
That’s a good question what question that I had to unlearn when dealing with asthma awareness was the fact that one could pass away from asthma and always be ready to acknowledge and learn more about illnesses or even understand that you each day is a gift to you and you live each day to your fullest.
