We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DeShawn Turner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

DeShawn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?

I have a YouTube channel that I have and I needed a camera for it while I wasn’t recording videos I said why not take photos with it I wasn’t doing a lot at first just pictures of trees my son my family members then I got booked to do a shoot outside and it came out great started doing more shoots for free to test myself out then I got booked for a baby shower and it was the best decision ever

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’m a 25 year old guy from Detroit Mi I wanted to shoot pictures cause I knew I had a talent for it but never gave it a chance till now I love shooting pictures and bringing people photos to life rather it’s a basic edit or a hardcore edit im the guy for the job

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

Funding your business as a photographer is hard a lot of people don’t see photography as needed till they have things they need professional photos for a lot of people say what can you do that my phone can not so to fund your business you have to find someone who needs you just like you need them and they will give you a budget and things to work with

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

A lesson I had to unlearn was everything will not be paid everything will not be successful every shoot wont be a benefit or anything it supposed to Be like
