We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Desanka Pinder a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Desanka thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I know that part of my personal mission on this Earth is to unlock people’s limitless potential so they are able to fully pursue their passions – fulfilling their overall purpose through making the world a better place. One of the ways I do this is through a company my husband and I co-founded called Cold Coffee Entertainment. We are a music consultation agency, management firm, and blog that is igniting global passion for independent artists.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As you know by now, I am on a mission to unlock limitless potential as an entrepreneur, content creator, and creative with a Master’s Degree in Music Business. I have worked with hundreds of brands including H&M, Amazon, Google, Disney, and Target, as well as have appeared in projects like Devil’s Domain with Michael Madsen and the current national commercial for Otezla. I’m an official member of The Recording Academy, Co-Founder of Cold Coffee Entertainment, and a start-up executive.
My deeper understanding of my purpose has lead me into all the ventures I pursue today, and is truly the throughline amongst all my work. Growing up in a musical home and participating in musical education throughout my years in school, that was the most natural entry-point when it came to developing Cold Coffee Entertainment – something that started off as a passion project and turned into a legitimate career path.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Something that I always heard from adults growing up was, “you can only do one thing”, “figure out what you want to do in life”, “you can’t do it all”, etc. As a child and a teenager, you grow up listening to those who are “older and wiser”… or at least that’s what they want you to think they are. News flash: your intuition will lead you to where you’re supposed to go – not some grown-ups dictating what you should or shouldn’t do as a result of their old-school values and upbringings.
These phrases were always so incredibly discouraging for me to hear because I knew if I just picked one of my passions to pursue, there is no way I would be fully happy. I quickly realized that I won’t let what I felt like the world suppress my purpose.
My mentor Rich Keller recently helped me discover my “one word” that connected all the dots for me and let me make sense of everything I have pursued in my life so far; it finally all made sense. Can you guess what my word is? I have mentioned it a few times in my interview so far. Read this interview to the end to see if you were right.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
They say not to mix business and pleasure… whoops! I guess you can say I’m a rule breaker because my co-founder is my husband, David Pinder.
Our love story started on a dating app and was brought to life by a chance meeting at a comedy show in LA. We both come from performance backgrounds, me with acting and singing, and him with drumming. While we were together, we realized that we weren’t passionate enough from a performance-perspective to pursue music as musicians, which lead us to both fall in love with business while falling in love with each other.
We decided to finish our undergrad and graduate degrees together in music business, which is when Cold Coffee Entertainment was born.
Together, we are limitless. ;)
