Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Iggy Hogans. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Iggy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
My first dollar earned as a creative was actually through merchandising. I started selling T-Shirts to support funding for my podcast and people actually liked them and bought them. That has since led me to creating hoodies, sweatpants, hats and even child wear. It feels good to see other people wearing your T-Shirt around maybe just as good as the dollar you earned from it, Ha.
Iggy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Iggy. I go by the artist name Iggy Sean when I’m creating music but for the past 4 years that path has led me into podcasting. I currently host a local podcast called Iggy’s Loudmouth Podcast. It is a centerpiece for discussions on many different lifestyle, music and cultural topics. The goal is to create a media hub in Chattanooga, Tn where all things from Mental Health, Sports, Relationships, Health and Music can all be discussed. It is called Loudmouth because at times the discussions and opinions on the show can be in your face. I believe in the power of words though and even when spoken passionately they can shift the world.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn or I guess I should say learned, is that you cannot expect your friends and family to support your vision. A lot of times the people around you either have an idea about you already or because they are family or a friend they feel that IS their support. The biggest lesson from that is learning how to network out of your comfort zone and allowing yourself to be outside of those people. Limiting expectations to include your closest people during the process as a creator always you to balance out the waves and get to the end goal.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I began really learning myself and my mental health last year and the book that changed my perspective on not only my entrepreneurial journey, but my life, is The Four Agreements. I am not a great reader so I wanted to find something shorter to read to help me start getting my mind right. The practices in that book helped shaped my mentality to where now I know how to manage my emotions as a creative and ultimately reach my full potential.
