We were lucky to catch up with Derrick Drake recently and have shared our conversation below.
Derrick, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Great Question.. You basically need to study in acting class just like an athlete you have to practice and I believe you should be passionate about it
By becoming an actor you’ve chosen a business of rejections. About 98% of actors get rejections every week after week and your rarely told why.
Derrick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My whole life most of my family & friends have always wanted me to entertain them so I’ve heard I have the gift of gab.. I rarely meet a stranger and my father made me believe you can get most anyone to smile.
Whatever you have inside of self you will surely give it away to others
I believe I was one of the most loved children on earth with a loving father so I enjoy people.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Ok this may be an unfair question because one of .y gifts which we are all born with is the gift of perseverance. Never give up because there is always a different way to achieve a goal.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I believe it’s difficult to do something that nobody believes is possible and the first time you admit more than once you want to be an actor omg almost everyone tries to talk you out of it and until your on Netflix HBO Appletv or tv..commercials ect you are mocked ridiculed and talked about behind your back that you’re an actor… WOW!!!
