We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Derrick De-Mond a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Derrick, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Wes Diego is probably the most meaningful project that I’ve worked on to date. It’s a full feature film that was filmed in 2022 and will be going to streaming sites in April of 2023. (shoutout 360 Film Group) There was just so much that went into this project from beginning to end. There were also some major setbacks that we faced making the film but collectively we overcame every obstacle, big and small. (mostly big). We also made history by being the first full feature film to be shown at NRG Center, where we had the red carpet premiere. That’s probably why it’s the most meaningful because we actually made history.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Derrick De-Mond and I’m an actor, who has been lucky enough to have starred in 6 feature films since 2018. Acting wasn’t something that I’d thought I’d be doing at this point in my life but the universe afforded me an opportunity and I welcomed it with open arms. Having not acted since high school, I was rightfully nervous but very excited at the same time. My very first movie was Brick City and looking back I never thought I’d be in the position that I am. I personally feel that Houston is one of the next cities that will get to showcase how much talent that’s here and can possibly become a hub for actors and studios. Acting is something that I truly have a passion for and I plan to work on my craft to become the best actor that I’ can be. God willing!!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I would say that the most rewarding aspect of acting would be, other people enjoying your work. To be able to express oneself on screen/stage and for that to translate into emotion that others can feel is an amazing feeling.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I can say that initially I just wanted to leave something that my kids could see for years to come but I’ve come to realize that I really do have a passion for acting and that’s really what drives me.
