We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Derrick Brownie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Derrick below.
Derrick, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my accounts across several different platforms. My business is still in its infancy stage so hiring a team or company to manage does not make sense at this time. The advice I would offer to anyone managing their own social media accounts is to get organized and use a project management tool. It has been great being able to plan ahead and schedule content.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got my first camera in 2010 and it’s been attached to my hip ever since. Flipping through the editorial photoshoots in GQ and Harpers Bazaar magazine motivated me to pursue photography. I wanted to produce something that would capture someone’s attention and showcase someone, or myself, in the best light.
In addition to photography, I’ve dabbled in videography, graphic design, and personal branding consultation. I help clients create personalized content for their customers. What sets me apart from other creators is my approach to finding my client’s story and using that to guide what we produce. I like infusing their DNA into their digital presence.
My biggest accomplishment so far has been having the opportunity to work with a wide range of brands across different industries. I want my clients to know that I’m grateful to each of them for trusting me with their brand. I want my audience to know I’m thankful for their support and building this small community of menswear enthusiast.
Looking forward to the next stage of this business.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One day, I will photograph a magazine cover for Harpers Bazaar
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth. How you treat people and the quality of work you do really does impact your reputation and how people view you.
