Alright, Derrick and Tori thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
We officially started our business back in 2018. I, Derrick Anderson, always had the desire to start my own business. I wasn’t sure what type of business to start. Due to my tech background I tried to phones, computer and even offer tech support but I ultimately decided that wasn’t an industry I want to pursue. Then, one day I was walking across campus at work and I said a “Rent a Fence” sign. Upon seeing the sign I called my wife, Tori Anderson, and asked, “What about a table and chair rental business?” We both agreed this was a good idea and that how we started Anderson Supplies. The table and chair rental business evolved into transporting items for event decorators as well.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Anderson Supplies is a local rental business based in Memphis, TN. We offer a variety of table and chair rentals. In addition to the rentals we offer event transportation services. For example, if an event planner or decorator has items they needed delivery to an event site we will deliver and return items.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Covid! Due to the pandemic we had to change our business structure. During the first few months we weren’t able to work or provide our services due to shutdowns. As a result, we started to rethink our business and what we offer. Ultimately, this how the transportation portion of our business was birth. We were able to use our rentals and equipment to assist other event planners and decorator transport their items.
How’d you meet your business partner?
We were husband and wife before we became business partners. One thing my about wife and I we try to do everything together. From raising our family to growing our business our goal is to be unified in everything and grow together. Though there are challenges, we know as the end of the day we have each others best interest as heart and the goal isn’t to just build a business to past something to down for generations.
