We recently connected with Derrell Harrison and have shared our conversation below.
Derrell, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I remember being in college and my family being very very proud about it. But in the back of my mind I was screaming “THIS IS NOT FOR ME!’ Im a firm believer in “you can’t teach something you’ve never done before” and I had dreams and aspirations far beyond what college and my professor could teach me. I had to face the risk of being laughed at and hearing the famous line, ” I told you so” but I made the decision to bet on myself and not look back., I came to peace with realizing I would be misunderstood for a long time to those around me..
Fast forward, I’m all about taking risks. My thing is, I’d rather be disappointed for a moment in life versus a lifetime of regret.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Since I was a kid, I was super creative and entrepreneurial minded. I would design clothes, furniture and futuristic looking architecture. I would win art shows and rewards for my creations. I would hear music and immediately see colors and draw what I felt, I would see movies and say, “wow, that would be so cool to create my own visuals and bring people into a different world!”
Fast forward I cam.e up with the name Eyetopia because I wanted to capture people’s stories and bring their vision to life through my lens. I have a goal of being THE LENS OF TEXAS.
I’m a visual creator, videographer, photographer and designer. That’s why I just say I’m a creator. If you ever had an idea but couldn’t flesh it out, I could help. If you need promotional work done, events, engagement, family videos or photos, I can help with that as well.
My style stands out for 3 reasons.
1. I actually care about making you look your best no matter how small or big the idea is.
2. I have your vision in mind and will enhance it with my creativity.
3. Anything I do I always think about it being billboard or Hollywood worthy. My work is top-tier.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Simply just like and share. It’s amazing how many impressions you’ll have but yet nobody will actually like, comment or follow you. When you engage on a post it goes a very long way. The algorythm will boost your post for more people to see it!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to share content that either inspires someone to get out of their comfort zone or someone says, “I needed to see this content, it made my day!”
