We were lucky to catch up with Deronte Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Deronte , appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

The story behind my mission is being able to use art to be able to not only express myself but being able to use art during the times that i couldnt find the words to tell how i felt or may have been feeling during a certain moment in time.

Deronte , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

certainly , im Deronte johnson owner of customsbyronte based out of Decatur , Ga. i got into the shoe customization business a little before covid hit , i was highly into sneakers but the main problem i kept running into was purchasing sneakers that other people didnt have so i came up with the idea to just create my own and stand out from a crowd. in the mist of me creating different designs i realized that other people felt the same way i did so i started to offer one of one customs that could help them express themselves. The things im most proud of is seeing the looks of satisfaction and gratitude on a customers face knowing that i brought an idea to life for them.One of the main things i would want a potential customer to know is that this isnt just a hobby for me or something that just passes the time its a very big passion of mine and its no better feeling then using my talent to bring joy to someone elses heart.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

the most important lesson i felt like i had to learn is patience, when i began i thought i could skip a few steps to speed up the process but i had to learn that not only pracitce makes perfect but patience would be the major key to my success.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

My best source for new clients has been networking with other upcoming brands and business owners , but the biggest source has been the free marketing and support that i receive from my family.
