We were lucky to catch up with DErica Pride-Squire recently and have shared our conversation below.

DErica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?

My first client was actually my mom. I had been making lipglosses of all colors for months and labeling trying to figure out names to incorporate with “Goddesses” and once we finally launched she bought one of each color to help promote the business “grand opening”.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am now 27, been in the “makeup and beauty” business for almost 2 years now. I got into the industry because I’ve always been a DIY type of girl from my hair to my nails and etc and seen it fit to learn how to apply makeup and finding colors that last and look good on skin like mine. The discipline in this business is honestly finding key vendors that can assist us in keeping the makeup quality consistent, sticking to natural products, and staying on top of the promoting game so our name can go far. I do want customers to know we are currently Under Construction for new branding and working on adding new products for the people to love.

How’d you meet your business partner?

My cofounder is my sister in love, Yasmine. We met almost 7 years ago because of my now husband lol. It was the summer of my first year done with college and once I made it home I went over to visit his family. The vibe and connection was instant and she’s the big sister I’ve never had.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

I built my audience on social media by adding women I seen have a love for makeup and making sure I was promoting and promoting trying to keep up with what’s new and what’s constantly used. Although the audience is still building I feel confident enough that with the new launch the word will spread and out loyal customers will come back and bring the party with them.
