We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Derek Reed. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Derek below.
Derek, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
One of the main reasons Reed Design Group was created was to help businesses present their goods and services with a high-quality, professionally designed Homebase. Many owners feel they can create website designs for their brand using off-the-shelf options that seem quick, easy, and cheap. Only to find they’re frustrated with the amount of time it took to create the right look, as well as it may not function the way they expected it to.
Our sole focus is to help change that, we listen to our client’s needs and work with them on their schedule to create design solutions that not only speak to them but their customers! We keep our processes simple by providing them with the right tools to help their customers navigate to exactly what they’re looking for and have an overall great experience!
Our satisfied clients are what drives Reed Design Group,
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I developed a passion for building websites and began taking on clients while still in college (the early 2000s) for a couple of students looking to start a side business. Although their business ultimately didn’t explode out of the gate, it did generate a lot of buzz for them (T-Shirt Business and a local Kidswear directory site, respectively).
Having that great feeling of playing a part in helping other’s businesses grow by creating fantastic website designs, formed my core belief of treating all of my clients as if they’re my FIRST! Also, I subscribe to the adage of Quality over Quantity, this helps me to form a solid working relationship with my clients instead of treating them like a number or just another project to work on.
Keeping that feeling led RDG to grow in terms of client scale. We’ve worked with a range of clients who are just starting their journey to brands that have presented on local and national TV Networks, as well as Politicians and certain causes for NFL players!
Having that relationship to get a deep understanding of my clients also allows RDG to develop a range of creativity that fits their needs very well. I am primarily responsible for taking concept ideas and making them into fully functioning websites. I also have a small team of professional associates who help with services from Branding, Animation, and SEO/Marketing to Application development. Ultimately RDG aims to have the “Big Agency” services while keeping the one-on-one feeling when you work with us.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The best strategy for growing clientele…is not treating it like a strategy or a scheme. If you’re growing your business, you have to be relatable, you have to truly be yourself, not unlike the dating market. It’s primarily about building relationships with people that happen to be business owners. You may not get a deal or sale that very moment, but they will remember how you made them feel, especially if it was a positive experience, which leads to the deals in the future.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped build the reputation I have is simply through my work and my actions. I go by the adage of under-promise and over-deliver when it comes to our clients.
