Alright, Derek thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The inspiration for starting Platinum Charm Events came from our own wedding experience. Unfortunately, we encountered several issues with our vendors: the DJ played multiple incorrect songs, and the coordinator was disengaged, failing to keep us on schedule or play our memory video. With my 7 years of DJing experience and my wife’s exceptional planning and execution skills, we decided to create Platinum Charm Events. In our company, I specialize as the DJ, while my wife handles planning and coordination. We provide services for weddings, birthdays, corporate events, and more.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
At Platinum Charm Events, we offer DJ, Emcee, Planning, and Coordination services with a fresh approach. Instead of strictly following industry norms, we focus on delivering the experience we would want for ourselves. We pride ourselves on excellent communication, meticulous planning, and diligent follow-up. When we commit to something, we do everything in our power to ensure it happens exactly as intended.
We foster a friendly, team-based environment and strive for nothing less than perfection. We’ve successfully executed several major events with high expectations. One memorable event was a surprise graduation party for a University of Utah graduate, where we coordinated with out-of-town family, managed all decorations, and worked with the photographer. Despite the honoree being notoriously difficult to surprise, we pulled it off magnificently, making it a major success. Photos and videos from this event are available on our website.
Another notable event was coordinating a wedding at the very venue where our own wedding faced challenges. My wife, Devery, flawlessly managed every aspect of this wedding, adhering to the timeline perfectly and creating a seamless experience for the newlyweds. I recently DJ’d a wedding at Le Jardin, where I played music during the reception, handled all the important dances, and ended with a super fun dance party. I received multiple compliments and several inquiries about how to book our services.
We treat every event as if it were our own, bringing respectful, focused, high energy, and giving 100% effort to execute everything flawlessly.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I am DJing, I am performing live, and every move and decision I make directly impacts what everyone hears. Once, while performing at a prom, my brand-new speakers began distorting at high volume. I had to keep the music going, maintain the energy, and troubleshoot the issue simultaneously. The saying “the show must go on” was incredibly relevant in that moment. Despite the difficulty, I managed to identify the cause of the distortion, fix it, and continue the show without interruption.
This experience exemplifies that no matter how much you practice and plan, unexpected issues can arise. It’s crucial to be prepared to handle these challenges while continuing to deliver a seamless performance. You must stay focused on your role and adapt quickly, even in the face of distractions and obstacles.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
When my wife and I decided to start Platinum Charm Events in September 2023, I was confident from the beginning that we would be successful. I knew this because we have something valuable to offer, there is a clear need for our services, and we are committed to delivering excellence every single time.
We both feel that many companies today have lost sight of the importance of customer experience, integrity, and the obligation to deliver on their promises. We started our business to address these gaps, ensuring our clients receive the high-quality service and personal attention they deserve. We are dedicated to doing things right, every time.
