Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Derek Pham. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Derek, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
At some point, I realized, do I want to focus on helping others build their own dream, or do I have what it takes inside of me to do what I am meant to do, and build something that will align with who I am, and serve a greater purpose in my life. For me, it was an easy decision when i look at it from those perspective. Entrepreneurial ship is not for everybody, but I truly believe you really have to love something so much to go all out for it, or hate your situation so deeply that you want to make changes for yourself. Depending on the situation, there is an innate drive that is needed to start the journey. A big enough why, and an above average work ethic really helps. I had all the check points. I believe this was several years in the past, I freshly graduated chiropractic college. I had an opportunity to join a practice close to home in Orange County. It was very stable position, I would be 5 minutes away from home, and I would have patients already line up for me as I was doing an internship at the office. It was the perfect opportunity, and the management team say they would love to have me on board and happy for me to join their team. We talked several times, but for some reason it didn’t feel right. My intuition was telling me this was not for me. It didn’t fit my overall purpose and vision of where I wanted to be.
Fast forward several months later. A colleague of mine invited me to join him in a practice in Pasadena. This was about an hour away from where I was living, I would have to commute daily, cultivate new patients, learn every aspect of business from scratch, develop myself in the whole process, and it was a fresh start up in a new town, which i knew nothing about. It was an easy decision… That decision was about 9 years ago. Yes, I had to go through many different obstacles and challenges to learn, evolve, and grow, and I think we all do if we desire something we truly want. Today, I am still in Pasadena, but in an office of my own location, with my own patients, and running my own business. Seeing patients daily, coaching, and learning to understand more of what is truly important to me. Having the courage to really go all in on what matters the most to me, and no matter the circumstances big or small, I rather choose to fight for my own dream.

Of course! My background is in chiropractic and sports medicine. I specialize in helping the human body reduce chronic pain, improve posture, and to aid in the body’s inherent ability to move, perform, and live better! Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
In business, I truly believe that you have to be an advocate of what you are providing, selling, serving. I recognized now that in order for me to have a successful business, personally, it has to come from the heart, and it has to come some place deeper within me. I believe the statistic is that most small business go out of business within 5 years. The landscape is always changing, and trends are always shifting, but the business that lasts longer are built on defining core values and a vision that is bigger than a business designed for profit. Yes, we need both to thrive, but the foundation is important for anybody starting out in business. The biggest lessons I’ve learn is to be align with what you stand for, what is important to the business, what role are you serving, and who do you want to serve. Going from a new business to a profiting business is a different mindset, and different strategies. From a certain revenue to a next level revenue requires a different, what I call next level skills and capabilities. How you got to one level, requires different capabilities to get to the next. Be prepare to work for yourself, everything is on you initially until you can get help. Have ownership, and be proud of what you are working for. Never forget why you started, don’t forget your why, and have the courage to believe in yourself more than anything external. Challenges will come, so have a solution. Shift your focus constantly but stay on target. There are always going to be more, so be prepared, and have some faith. I truly want to create a massive shift in the health industry today and going forth. The status of health is changing and what we know about health is always being revolutionized with newly research data in science. But you will be surprise at what making small, decisive, deliberate, and constant improvement over time can do! Here we are “Making changes, one adjustment at a time.“
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think for me one of the core value of who I am is being reliable, consistent, and always willing to learn and grow. I think choosing to show up for your own life is simple to say, but takes work and consistence effort. With that being said, there are people who are called into an industry and they believe that once they are in that is it! They stop working on their business, not learning, and showing up with the wrong attitude. But really the ones that answers and willing to go forth pushing pass their limiting beliefs and have a willingness to be humble and learn and grow, it is there where you build your reputation and grow your success! I say that with the most respect, because I was both as described. Some days are hard, some days you doubt what you are doing, and what you are trying to achieve, and some days you’re flying and everything is clicking and going so well! It is part of the journey, and we have to learn to fall in love with the process and not the results. Everything worth while in your life will show up, the fruit as we say, once you truly believe in the effort. You will achieve financial success, happiness, and peace if you truly fall in love with what you are working on even if you don’t see the finish line. Push on and fall in love with the life you are building and your reputation will gain fire!
