Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Derek Green. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Derek, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a customer success story with us?
I can recall a client requesting a koi pool installed into their backyard for the summer. The pool would be home to beautiful koi fish and he needed the project done before a party. Our crew dug into the ground five feet deep and close to twenty feet long. The pool had staggered levels and allowed for a waterfall The foundation work we performed allowed for the pool floor to be laid down just in time for pool and koi to have a home for his summer party.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I began this business as a means to make some residual money on the side from my full-time job with a local grocer.. I cut a few lawns around my neighborhood, family lawns, and friends. So afterward, my client base increased to include over 20 lawns. So, I would work my full-time job and attend to jobs once I was done with work. With a three-year time, I acquired my first contract with a multi-family complex maintaining their property of over 8 acres. From that point, my jobs and inquiries came in and I eventually left my full-time position and became a full-time entrepreneur.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Referrals and word of mouth. Everyone in the metro Atlanta area needs some level of lawn maintenance. The key is providing quality work coupled with following up with clients.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
For my brand, I use IG to promote our work and cold calling our past and current clients. Most clients on our books are seen every month so the relationships are active.
