We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Derek “FrosTT” Ward-Majors Jr . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Derek “FrosTT” below.
Hi Derek “FrosTT”, thanks for joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I absolutely love being an artist. Having a free schedule to plan how I want, when I want is amazing. I’ve worked many jobs in different fields. To truly be a productive artist its often needed to have a job to obtain the resources needed for your career. I work 9-5s when I want a new experience or training. I learned more side jobs that lead to careers from the music industry than being i jumped in it. (photography, shoot videos, graphic design, etc) As a father of 5 sons + 1 young lady, I have chosen to spend the maximum amount of time on my family and future with establishing a career i can fully operate from home or on the go.

Derek “FrosTT”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I first got into music as a kid when my Pops played his turntables. I loved how he would mix all genres of music so fluidly and always kept the music going. I wanted my voice to be played just like that. Began rapping while friends beatbox and eventually taught myself to record vocals on windows 99 voice recorder lol. Overtime reactions from coworkers and friends and having my sons constant support since diapers, I grew to a point I wanted to expand my reach with my voice. Years & 9 concussions later caused me to look at the world different and made me shape my message and to brand myself as a more positive, “never give up” kind of artist. Im one of a kind. I want people to see me or hear me and the 1 thing they take away is to always believe in themselves no matter what. My single “Believe” is the highlight of that message. I am most proud of the impact I’ve had and people have expressed to me about cancer awareness, never giving up, so many testimonials how someone I never met used my message to fight their personal fight.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To achieve more than what I had before. Building a legacy with my music and creative ability in the hopes my kids will find their career path they love before they wait too long. No fast food and manual labor unless they so choose. Pursue and express your creativity always!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Promotional and marketing campaigns and contacts. Now with social media you can blow up in a day. I went thru the cd and word of mouth strategy so long and didn’t utilize what was out there. Social media is often frowned upon but used correctly can give anyone an edge in their career.
