We were lucky to catch up with Dequarius Nelson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, DeQuarius thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful, I believe it is important to believe in yourself, even when nobody else does. Additionally, having the drive and hunger to refine your skills whenever you can is essential.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hey whats up, my name is DeQuarius Nelson and I am a Personal Stylist from Dallas, Tx. When I was young, I always enjoyed dressing well, which led me to become interested in fashion. Before officially calling myself a stylist, I often helped family and friends choose their clothes, and people frequently sought my fashion advice. The idea of becoming a stylist was brought to my attention by a couple of friends, and at first, I was unsure about pursuing it because I didn’t know where to start or what I was doing, lol. After researching and reflecting on the idea, I realized that styling was my gift and my purpose. Since then, I have been dedicated to my work and continuously seek knowledge to grow as a stylist. I’ve received a lot of support from family, friends, and peers, and I’ve also been building a client base since starting out. As a stylist I advises my clients on clothing styles, trends, colors and patterns. I help people to develop their unique sense of style and build a wardrobe that reflects their personality and makes them feel confident whether its an event, work, or even just personal branding.

How did you build your audience on social media?
At first, I wasn’t sure how to market myself as a stylist. I think my nerves and shyness stemmed from my uncertainty about whether I would be good enough. However, once I gained confidence, I started creating content with family and friends to promote my work, and everything began to fall into place. If I could offer advice to anyone just starting out, I would suggest two things. First, pray and ask God to guide you in the right direction. Second, create a plan and believe in yourself. I promise that when you put in the work, opportunities will naturally come your way.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I believe the most effective way to grow my clientele is through self-promotion on social media and networking. I used to be afraid to reach out to people to collaborate on projects or seek advice from other stylists, but in reality, you never know who might be able to help you achieve your goals. It’s truly about who you know. That’s why I emphasize the importance of networking.
