We were lucky to catch up with DeQuana Ellis recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, DeQuana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

My company’s name comes from our company’s mission and my personal nickname from my life partner. BodiedXNature represents the concept of loving our bodies and using some of nature’s resources to nourish and heal our skin. No need for extra additives when nature has always provided what we need. Our logo focuses on my personal nickname, which is, “Moon.” When asked why he gave me that particular name, his answer was simple, “Because whenever we are driving at night and I glance over at you, you searching for the moon in the sky.” Which is very true! I am a Selenophile, which means, “a person who loves the moon.” So by incorporating the Moon into our logo, I was able to pay homage to the person and entity that encouraged me to create the business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

BodiedXNature was founded in 2020 by a young African-American woman with one central principle of providing quality organic skincare at valuable prices. Our founder, DeQuana Ellis, appreciates quality skincare items and is as dedicated to your skin as she is to hers. Her passion for quality items is what led her to start the business. She knew she wasn’t the only one searching for great skincare items and she wanted to make the search a little easier, for her fellow searchers. Our skin is our largest organ and we must nurture it. It is our goal to help you be successful on your skincare journey. Our base products are carefully chosen to ensure quality products will be delivered to you. We carry various scents that suit any mood you are aiming for. Each product is handcrafted and formulated with care and love. Since launching in 2020 we have added numerous products to our catalog! We now offer over 13 scents in Body Butters, 8 in Sugar Scrubs, and 5 Body Oils! That only includes our everyday catalog! We offer special collections for various seasons such as our Fallin’ Collection, & HoliDAZE Collection! We even have a kid-focused line named, “Maddi’s Collection” named after my niece, ( and all proceeds go to her)! We believe little ladies need to be taught about self-care as early as possible! We will be launching new products in 2023 and we are super excited about it!

I am most proud of hearing all of the success stories from our Babes (customers)! So many of them have experienced great skin healing and hair growth! Yes, we offer Hair Growth Oil as well!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

The process of making BodiedXNature a reality began in June 2020. Which meant I truly began ordering inventory and tweaking the recipes to perfection. Our launch date was set for October 30th, because that was my mother’s death anniversary & I wanted to use the business as a way to change that sad to a positive one while making my mother proud of me. However, on October 21st, I was diagnosed with Covid-19 and it was horrible! The worst part of it all was I lost my sense of smell. Luckily, I had premade so many products and I didn’t need to touch a single item. I was so afraid of not being able to launch on the day. Then the fear of spreading the virus set in! That was my main fear! While being sick myself, I was afraid for my potential customers! So much so, I borrowed a fogger machine to sanitize my home, TWICE, to guarantee a lack of transmission! I was serious! Even after all of that, we still launched on October 30th, 2020! Even though my life partner had to pack all the orders for me because I was too afraid to. The main lesson for me, was no matter what remain resilient because whatever the Universe has destined for you, it will come to fruition.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

WORD OF MOUTH!! Word of mouth will get you into doors, you’ve never heard of! That has gotten BodiedXNature in so many places, it is almost unreal! Treat every customer with respect and how you’d want to be treated and watch how they help your business flourish! I am eternally grateful for my Babes and Beaus for their continued support by sharing us with friends and family!
