We recently connected with Dequan Starnes and have shared our conversation below.
Dequan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
My mom is my hero. For some many years I’ve saw her work extremely hard to take care of the 4 young men she raised as a single mom. One of the greatest lessons I learned from her is getting things done on her own and making certain sacrifices for things big picture. It’s almost as if she looked ahead and always made decisions based on what would better fit for our family long term. She influenced my journey by showing me the consistency and the power to take care of things myself and not be dependent on anyone or anything to help me succeed.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Dequan Starnes, aka Q-Starnes, one of the most impactful hip-hop acts to come out of Monroe North Carolina. Raised around music he decided to pursue his musical talent and began to chase his dream. At the early age of 5 he was given a microphone by his grandmother and never looked back.
Q-Starnes has since then released his viral hit single titled “You’re Enough” where he shined some light on his struggles with mental health and how he overcame his deep battle with depression.
He leads a team and also the CEO of a management firm titled Destined 4 Greatness Management. Helping clients design success! By working to facilitate their goals and aspirations.
Here at D4G management we are proud to say that we can offer over eight years of
experience in consulting, contract negotiations, marketing and strategic planning to our clients.
We have expanded our expertise beyond the music industry for clients who are interested in the writing/publishing and personal development industries, which include motivational speaking.
He’s also released his long awaited follow up project “Walking In My Destiny” the album in 2022. Stay in-tuned to Dequan Starnes (Q-Starnes) as he continues the departure on his musical journey.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
To be perfectly transparent between myself and my team we didn’t follow the ordinary process of getting a business loan or searching for investors to raise capital for start cost marketing etc. We strategically put our heads together and used our savings from our incomes to invest in everything we were doing to build the company from the ground up. Yes it has been very challenging at times because of course things do get very expensive when trying to expand and bring awareness to your band. Digital marketing, hiring pr firms etc. But we’ve managed to get by and so far it’s been working in our favor. You just have to keep going and stay encouraged even when it looks like the process is moving slowly.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
The way that I keep in touch clients is very simple we conduct biweekly calls emails with updates as they communication is key.
