We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Deprise Brescia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Deprise below.
Deprise , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The birth of the, “Butterfly Sculpture Garden” AKA, a metamorphosis of, “Veterans Voices” the art exhibition/installation which I created and curated beginning in 2017. It was created as a way to introduce veterans to the arts as a means of expression and healing from PTS, MST and other forms of anxiety and or depression. We partnered artists and veterans, some created together forming co-creations, some artists were interpreters as veterans shared their vision and story while other veterans boldly created their own artwork covering a range of topics, uncensored, unfiltered and unjudged… We allowed a safe place for creative expression to be seen, heard and respected.
Going back to 2020 when the world was cocooning we were slated to continue this art exhibition called, “Veterans’ Voices” , and as they say, “The show must go on!”. Since nobody was going inside, we decided to go outside and create something beautiful, uplifting and inspirational. Our veterans’ exhibition of artwork would now turn into butterflies. Our shifting upon a dime was to create beautiful butterflies as a symbol of hope and inspiration.
All materials were free for veterans and their families. The only stipulation was they had to write something inspirational on the wings of the butterflies. That inspirational message, word or prayer could be either visible or exist as an underpainting. The intention was based upon the Hado work of the late Dr. Masaru Emoto. Our words have an impact upon water, our bodies and the earth collectively because we are primarily water, so let’s write something good! He was a great mind that has influenced my work deeply as both an artist and curator.
Although the ‘Veterans’ Voices’ project has changed, morphed and moved on, the ‘Butterfly Sculpture Garden’ had remained. The uplifting art installation continues as a wonderful reminder of how we can change, grow and recreated ourselves throughout our lives. Be the butterfly!
The butterfly sculpture still remains at the Deprise Brescia Art Gallery as a popular photo opp. All butterflies from 3 inches to 8 feet are for sale. People are encouraged to come and find the butterfly that inspires them and fits into their personal space! We invite you to come take your picture here and see what draws you in!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Deprise Brescia, I am a California based mixed media artist best known for my innovative encaustic artwork and unique style. It is something I like to call ‘Transformational Energy Art’. I coined the phrase because of the intention to raise vibratory frequencies by merging science and spirituality in my artwork. Science has proven many of the methods I use to have a positive impact on people and environments. Although I work in a wide range of mediums, large scale encaustic is my preferred style of working. My bold use of color, craveable texture and elaborate detail makes working in a larger format a natural.
I merge elements of French Impressionism, ancient encaustic art, like the Fayum mummy portraits found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Greek relief sculptures and contemporary art to create something new. My works are held in private collections and have exhibited throughout the world in galleries, museums, including the Louvre in Paris, France and public art installations.
I work with encaustic, acrylic, collage, digital art and photography as well as semi-precious stones placing them into sacred and ancient grid formations and arrays for their beneficial properties. I also use the semi-precious stones of: quartz crystal, jade, garnet, kyanite, lapis lazuli, tigers eye, coral, amethyst, geodes, moonstone, black phantom quartz, rose quartz, turquoise and citrine to enhance and energize the positive intentions set forth in the artwork.
Dr Masaru Emoto and his research on water with the peace project and the water crystals had a profound impact upon my work. After meeting Dr Masaru Emoto and receiving a blessing from the Ajari, the Living Buddha in Los Angeles California I was compelled to further this powerful work in my own unique way, through art.
“Deprise’s recognizable style is earning her the reputation of a prolific, modern master. Her radical departure from the tradition use of encaustic painting sets her apart as she creates her own unique style of art. ”

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when you first get the inspiration for a work of art or project and it grows, you begin to see pieces of it coming into focus and you feel compelled to create it. There is this amazing force that flows through you as a creative and it speaks to you, it shows you the way and sometimes it pivots and you must follow that guidance. I call it divine guidance or inspiration.
When you follow that divine guidance, not knowing where it is going completely, until it is finished, and it lets you know it is done, that is truly a co-creation with a higher power and that is addictive and hugely rewarding.
That unknown part of the creative journey gets a little iffy for those of us that love to control things, but when we let go and go on the ride, it’s awesome! … Then a person comes along and connects with the work in a profound way, that is when the reward of being the creator and trusting your intuitive inspiration pays off.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My transition from a career in front of the camera as a performing artist into a visual artist was a huge pivot for me personally and professionally. I needed to express myself in a way that was much more in alignment with who I was, artistically and spiritually.
Both areas needed to come together in a way that was nurturing not just to me, but to those whom I was creating for. Visual arts and specifically, ‘Transformational Energy Art’ where I can merge both science and spirituality into my creativity through art allows me to do that completely while helping to uplift people, places and spaces.
It resonates with me so much at this point in my life. I love what I do! Big changes can be scary, but when you follow your heart, you are usually lead the right way!
