We were lucky to catch up with Deonte Bolden recently and have shared our conversation below.
Deonte , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
After the passing of my older disabled brother in 2006, I suppressed a lot of emotions while going through a dark period of depression, so dark to the point where I contemplated suicide. A suicide letter turned into me writing and expressing my emotions while writing poetry, that then lead to my purpose which was writing scripts and even books that while inspire generations to come.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Through his production company Deonte’ ‘Bolden Productions. The Washington DC native made his directing and playwriting debut with the premiere of the stage play ” Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places.” The inaugural work was well- received by the Atlanta community and inspired audiences during the 2 sold out performances.
He is the author of two publications, Purpose Pains which won The PEACH Theatre Literary Award in 2020 and a children’s book, Differently Abled, which is an empowerment book about four children with disabilities who go on a journey of developing self-love, acceptance, and confidence. The empowering story was inspired by his late brother, which recently landed him an interview on Atlanta’s 11Alive News and Atlanta Live on WATC TV 57 in Atlanta. Deonte’ is currently developing a series of works built around his life experiences that will inspire many generations.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal and mission is to inspire other creatives to green light themselves and not wait for someone else to give you the opportunity. Create your own opportunities and build your own table and watch how many people will be inspired to come sit at your table and feast!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Most of my journey I have been connected to people who I depended on to help me in different ways. Either I cast them or somehow they were vital to the production. They would either vanish or drop out of the production, however, once I’m in , there is no looking back and I am a firm believer that one monkey don’t stop a show, and the show must go on, so I persevere and find replacements while still sticking to my deadline and get the show done to perfection.
