We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Deontay Savoy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Deontay below.
Deontay, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I am an artist looking to expand knowledge and outlook on life. My mission is to let the world consume my work in a great way.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Born and Raised in Annapolis, MD, Deontay Savoy (Taydollaz) has always been influenced by music in his early days. Throughout periods of his life, enduring hardships and telling the stories of those hardships became a way or escaping or accepting the true nature of what life was like as a kid. Live the life of someone who’s determined to be successful and see it thru his eyes. Making projects like the ‘Too Reel’ series(1-4), ‘Just Being Honest’, ‘IX’, and most importantly his ‘Eternal’ series (1 & 2) which is growing rapidly. He put his all into the quality of music and it shows! What makes me most proud is that he can connect with people thru doing something he genuinely loves.
His dedication and commitment to contribute to his music catalog and expand it with High quality- Good feeling music. Touching all aspects of R&B, hip hop and even a bit of afrobeat, helps him constantly grow his talents to new heights!
Starting a small team was big for Taydollaz at the beginning. He started out with 2 other local artists he grew up with. As time went pass, he was the only one who kept the drive and passion for music. In fact, he stepped it up another level when going solo. The best of his work came when he can hone in on his craft and be versatile.
Taydollaz is most happy with the progress in his creativity more than the numbers. Although he has shown a will to preserve through anything, the hardships really take a toll on him. When those things happen, he loves to lose hisself in his music, writing and listening to his own work. All he does is critique his music daily and see where he can improve and make himself apart of any record.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Everyone can not be apart of your success! This is the biggest thing. At many times people lose sight in the reality of life, and that you need people along your journey. But not everyone is there for the long haul. Some people are just like seasons.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I was diagnosed with adjustment disorder from my therapist. I was so used to being a Dad and in my kids life that when things happened that was out of my control, I had to learn to be uncomfortable to get comfortable. Life was such a blur and scary. I woke up everyday feeling empty. I overcame that with therapy and music. When everyone left, I had my pen and pad.
