We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Deonna Sora. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Deonna below.
Deonna, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I adore when people ask, “what makes Sweet Dee’s different?” Well, It’s a few small things that really help us up our game. First and foremost, our portion sizes. We really believe in what my Grandma Cossentino would always do, feed you & send you home with more than enough. Most charcuterie boards you see are very lean on the meats, maybe 1 Oz per guest. Things are spaced apart, heavier on the accouterments rather than the heart of the board. We make sure each guest has plenty of meats, cheeses, crostinis and all of the fun extras.
Another thing we do that really sets us apart is our standard of quality. Every single grape, berry and flower has been hand selected to be the freshest possible. There’s not a huge corporate order that goes through many hands. Or a company that sells you just whats on sale that week. This is your own personal shopper, hand selecting everything for your beautiful display. Our attention to detail speaks for itself.
I feel these two things matter most in a wold where not everyone can afford top of the line. We deliver the upmost quality, superb hospitality and very generous portions for an affordable price.
Deonna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Deonna Sora and own Sweet Dee Hospitality. I live in Loveland, Ohio with my husband and our dogs. Ever since i was little I’ve always been passionate about my roots and Italian food. At the age of 17, I started serving at out local pizza place, LaRosas. I absolutely loved everything about the restaurant, the way it ran, the food, and how happy you could make kids just by a special birthday dessert. A few years later at 21, I found myself at a local Bistro. It was fantastic. I had learned so much. Over the next 10 years I had perfected my craft for mixology, created so many rewarding connections and pretty much learned every position there was. Unfortunately, when Covid-19 hit the entire industry changed. It was with a heavy heart I resigned. That’s when Sweet Dee Hospitality was created. I knew I really wanted to recreate the best parts of the industry, but do it better than before. There was so much great talent that had left, restaurants in general were left fractured. I wanted to create a business that was known for its incredibly high standards, the upmost level of professionalism, and a passion for celebration.
Sweet Dee Hospitality just started as charcuterie boards that I would bring to family gatherings. Since then we have expanded to an entire catering menu, including Gormet Sandwiches and light appetizers. . We have a mobile bar station with a creative craft cocktail menu. I’m over the moon just thinking about where we’ll go.
I think what sets us apart from the competition is the quality of our products along with our portion sizes. Not many charcuterie boards have enough meats and cheeses for every guest. We insure you’ll have more than enough.
I want everyone to know Sweet Dee’s for the love that we put into our work. Our purpose is our passion. Our passion for family, food & celebration.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Oh wedding season is full of opportunities! Between Facebook groups, wedding expos, Bridal shows, small business marketing events and local farmers markets! All of these are events I’ve done in my first year. They may not fit into everyone’s categories, however they are such great resources even one or two will get you new clients. Keep your eyes open for every chance to grow!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I firmly believe that growing up in our small town of Loveland, graduating here and then working here in the heart of Downtown Loveland for over 10 years has given me ample opportunity to create lifelong relationships and amazing connections with our community. Since announcing my business venture I’ve had such a positive response and such great support.
