We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Deon Lindsey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Deon, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Royalty Coaching was birthed in 2017. Before I even started this brand I went through so much stuff but everything happened to me all at once. I remember August 30, 2017 like it was yesterday. I woke up with a really bad headache and I went on to work anyway (I worked in the health field as a Administrator) so in my mind I needed to go feeling bad and all. I remember walking in work with a smile on a face.

Let’s just say that morning at 8:45am I ended up in the hospital with blood pressure of 197/150 all I remember is my head spinning. Once I got to the ER I was rushed to the back. They ran test and I couldn’t leave until my blood pressure came down enough for me to go home.

Once it came down all I can hear the doctor say was I was stressed and I needed to see my doctor the next day. I knew after seeing my doctor my life would change. It had to because I needed me but didn’t realize how important self love & self care really was. Once I started this journey I struggled bad but I just kept thinking I wanted to live. The words of my doctor kept playing in my head (If you don’t take care of yourself you will not be here with us we would be at your funeral)

Let’s just say that broke my heart in that moment all I could think about was how would I put myself first.

In my now moment I look back on all I went through to get where I am today and that’s loving myself and standing in my Royalty!

Deon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Hi Royalty, I am your Self-Love and Relationship Coach, Deon Lindsey. Showing women how to love themselves and step into their fullest potential is my passion.

Royalty Coaching was birthed in 2017 after I met death face-to-face but was offered another chance at life. With my second chance, I decided it was time I said “yes” to boundaries, relationships that served me, and a mind that could support me.

It is my mission to help hundreds of women say “yes” to themselves and take back their life, walk in faith, and serve in their purpose.

It’s time to change the narrative on putting yourself first!

As women, we carry our entire households on our backs but what happens if something happens to us? Prioritizing yourself over others isn’t selfish, it’s necessary.

There’s a secret order in which you should serve, and to give you the answer straight: it begins with you! Prioritization isn’t about the importance of the person you’re choosing between, it’s about the order of
choice.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

I remember being told that I had to put others before my own needs (Being raised in the church you feel that this is best) but as I got older and went through my own situations in life I had to realize that wasn’t true because as I was giving others all I had when it was actually time to give something to myself I had nothing.

My body was empty and I was drained so I started teaching myself about self love and self care and learning how to build a real relationship within myself and I learned to stop pretending to be ok when I really wasn’t because I was such a caregiver and wanted to please others. Teaching myself these things were really big for me with many tears and so many emotions.

I really didn’t know where to start so I remember thinking start with God ask God how could I serve more but providing myself with what I needed first in order to serve others I had to be mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually there for myself! I remember telling myself “You need YOU!! I had to change the negative self-talk into powerful affirmations that cultivate a lifestyle of peace, balance, and purpose.

Have you ever had to pivot?

It was actually last year 2021 that I had to pivot in my business. I started my business in 2017 and I knew it was a God thing/My gift but when I started out in business things seemed so right even leaving my job of 15 years as an Administrator in a Assisted Living. As I went into my calling 5 years down the line things started to feel off. I felt like I wasn’t doing what I was called to do. I became really unhappy in my life and in my business and wanted to walk away but I knew walking away wasn’t the answer. In 2021 I rebrand my whole business and rebranding my business actually was me rebranding my life!

The both needed so many things and I didn’t want to feel so stuck! Once I rebranded my business and relaunched I stepped away from my business and social media to really understand what God was calling me to do because I wanted to get it right. I relaunched on November 21, 2021 and after that I was in it for a few and decided to take a break. So, taking that break meant so much to me and it was needed because I got closer to God!
