We were lucky to catch up with Deodge Hill recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Deodge thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I have been a certified Physician Assistant since 2004. Working in various specialities from general surgery, vascular surgery, trauma, and ENT. I also worked in primary care. After losing my husband, detroit police officer, killed in th e line of duty my career path changed. I went from hospital settings to outpatient. I started working in addiction medicine and eventually partnered with a PA and opened a family practice. After that adventure dissolved I opened a mental health, substance use disorder, and primary care. My goal is to promote health and wellness. In 2015 I started a nonprofit PH1LL to honor my late husband and to give resources to single parents in college. I’ve been giving resources to single parents since 2016.
In 2019 after experiencing a personal situation with domestic violence after losing my husband Instarted I Am
with You, a nonprofit that helps domestic violence victims and human trafficking victims to get away.
In 2023 an endowed scholarship, Deodge Hill Scholarship fund was fully matured. This scholarship will provide tuition for a non traditional student enrolled in college. It is through the University of Michigan.
I am honored to help people get healthy and well and pursue a life of success after tragedy.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I would choose the same profession. This profession has allowed me to be flexible with my life changes and with the time. It has allowed me to get time with my family and also gave me a room to grow as a person. I love what I do. I love the gift God has given me to help people get healthy and well. I love the resources that God has given me to give back to the community. I wouldn’t change it for the world.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I partnered with another PA I had to learn business. I knew how to take care of patients, and even knew how to learn to work in an outpatient setting from being inpatient for so many years. The part I was not sure about was how to run a business, and how to work with someone else after halftime to after having to dissolve a practice I’ve learned that there Hass to be much more communication and that you only partner have to be on the same page. But the fear that I had was that I didn’t think I can do it by myself. I prove myself wrong.
