We were lucky to catch up with Denzel Early recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Denzel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
In communities today leadership is needed by all those intent on being of service to their neighbor. When I was stationed at my battalion I had to make sure other privates were always early for detail. I had to make sure we had our canteens, our weaponry, our loads, our extra equipment, our maps, because we would march out at around 2am and not get back to our barracks until around 7pm. We had to look out for each other. No soldier could be left behind. So in today’s world I had to apply the same sense when it came to no child, woman, man or elder being left behind.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
When I was 18 I had just finished school. I sat down with my family and discussed what I should do for a career going forward. I decided the Navy was my first choice. However my grades weren’t good enough. So I said let me come up with an idea of going reserve in the Army. However it was a last second split decision to go active. So I did. I ended up going active and before you knew it I was on a plane to South Carolina to do my first day of duty.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had multiple careers. I’ve done carpentry in Chicago in the neighborhood of Beverly Hills, Chatham and Englewood. I’ve had the opportunity of working at supermarkets, and restaurants in Detroit. I’ve worked at the baseball stadium called Comerica Park where the Detroit Tigers play. I’ve also played basketball seasonally in places like Minnesota, Illinois and Michigan.
When hardened luck struck me though my decision to find the best outlet was not as tough as it may have seemed. We’re in the digital age now after all. It wasn’t that hard to open my ears and find information with my eyes. I took money I had gotten from the military and invested it into Africa. I knew if I invested money the resources would find its way back to my community in America in the form of new family centers, and new event places.

How’d you meet your business partner?
Me and my uncle’s son met when we were playing with other kids in the home’s garden. We did everything together growing up. We traveled to places like Calumet City, Indiana and Chicago. We even went into the military at the same time. His name is Jahmarri Traylor. He served during Iraq and was stationed overseas.
