We recently connected with Denton Art And Performance Collab and have shared our conversation below.
Denton Art, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’ve had the dream to be an event planner for many years, but it wasn’t until last summer when I decided it was time to just do it! I had already vended at many events in the DFW, so I was confident that I knew what I wanted out of an event. I’ve been involved with the art and music scene in Denton for the past 6 years, and have done my share of networking and building those important connections, along with making long lasting friendships. I felt like I had the backup and knowledge I needed to finally start planning! There were some bumps in the beginning, but after adding our other two contemporaries to the team, we now have something solid! I quit my desk job earlier this year and am now running my crafting business and event planning team full time. It was scary, but I feel like it is the best decision I could have made in order to prosper and flourish. The support for local artists in Denton is tremendous, and because of that, we have been able to plan successful events one after another.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Denton Art and Performance Collab is an event planning team that collaborates with established local businesses to provide a full Denton art scene experience. We plan one large event each month where we book local vendors and performers. Our events pop up all over town, because we want to support as many businesses as possible! We’ve had events at Aura Coffee, Chrysalis Clothing Gallery, Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio, The Bearded Monk, Green Valley Gardens, and Golden Boy Coffee Co. We also currently have our Art & Sol Market residency at Harvest House every first and third Wednesday, where we bring out 3-4 local artist while Denton’s one and only Sol Kitchen performs. Our team is made up of local artisan, Ali Oop, local baker, Alex Clifton, and local musician, Bret Crow. We understand what vendors and performers are looking for when they sign up for an event. Our success is knowing our vendors and performers are happy with each of our events, which I believe is something that sets us apart from others. We are always looking to support more local businesses, artists, and performers, so if you haven’t heard from us yet, please give us a follow on social medias and reach out to collaborate on our upcoming events!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best way to support is to buy things from local artists, go see bands play live, and buy a drink or food while you’re there too! Putting money back into our community directly will build a thriving creative ecosystem. Another way is to give the artist or creative a follow on social media, like their post, and share their content. Spreading the word to your friends and family is a great way to support and build our community stronger.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to inspire others to reach for their dreams and not give up on their creative side.
