We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Denora M. Boone a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Denora M. , thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I was fortunately raised by my paternal grandparents from the time I was brought home from the hospital. The love and support that they gave me was unmatched and were the main reasons behind my success in writing. They definitely allowed me to be creative and engaged in whatever it was that I created. Although my daddy went away during the early part of my life, it was my grandparents who made sure that my relationship with my daddy never waivered. Because of the three of them being very active in my life, I’m not only a great creative but an amazing mother to my own children and grandmother to my grandaughter.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I My name is Denora M. Boone and I am a bestselling and award winning author, screenwriter, publisher, and ghostwriter from Milledgeville, Ga. I started my career as an Urban Christian fiction author back in 2014 and in 2015, I started my own publishing company, Anointed Inspirations Publishing. To date I’ve written over 40 novels of my own and published almost 200 novels for other authors. In 2017, I decided to take a break from writing book and started studying screenwriting. I always knew that I wanted to see my work on the big screen and decided to take that step. Currently, I have two movies adapted from my novels streaming on Tubi; Preaching Lies and Quarantine Bae.
What I’m most proud of is that even with all of the obstacles that I have had to fight, I have not given up. This film industry is crazy at times but I feel like God has prepared me for this.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Generational wealth for my family. I want every piece of art that I create to be what leaves behind a legacy and financial freedom for my children, grandchildren and so on. Our family has been through so much and I want to make sure that those issues end with me. Writing isn’t just a hobby for me but its my way of making sure that I put to use the gift that God blessed me with in order to take care of the family that He trusts me with.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what helped me build a reputation within this literary/film industry is that I take what I do seriously. I’m not just a writer that wants to say I’ve written something but I want what I write to impact people’s lives. I give quality work with every project and I always stay true to myself and what I believe.
