Hi Dennis, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?

If I were starting over, I would create a plan that involved a series of short-term objectives. When we started our business, we only focus on how to accomplish big things with long-term plan. For example, we wanted to become a big marketing company in our community that could encourage our customers to have more consumer-brand interaction by personalizing products. However, without balancing short-term needs with this long-term goals, we almost ran out of our startup capital in the first year. Negative cash flow threatened our business and the growth of our company has stalled. We almost lost our chance to fight. Fortunately, we paid the price for making the mistake, and we got the learning. When it comes to making plans, both short and long-term goals are essential. These two will work together to help your business achieve success.

Goboxad Inc is a food packaging company that specialized in serving local restaurants’ food containers. At the same time, we are more than just a food packaging company that we provides our customers with design, marketing, printing and branding services conveniently. Our restaurant customers do not need to go extra mile to find design, marketing, printing and branding services to promote their businesses. Our services enhance convenience as we are an all in one service provider, ensuring that restaurants run efficiently and achieve their set targets.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

My family owned a restaurant when I was a teenager. We worked very hard for over 12 hours a day, but the business was still losing money every month. Unfortunately, the business failed and we had to quit our business. This was a painful experience to me. Until I went to college and finished my degree in graphic design, I saw the power of the package design. A great package design can creates a moment of magic. It can go beyond the expected and get attentions from customer easily. To run a successful restaurant, serving the best food and creating a strong packaging and branding are the same important. This becomes the main reason that we turn our company to a food packaging company that is separate from our competitors.

How’d you meet your business partner?

Effective accounting system is one of the most important aspects of making our business successful. I would like to give my honor to my wife, my business partner, who plays an important role in our business. She shared her experience working with corporate companies in accounting and information systems and has given me a lot of advise on how to building an effective operating system in the past seven years. She currently has a full time job and she also spends her spare time on contacting our customers, cold calling and distributing flyers for our business to increase more customers. It couldn’t have been possible without her support.
