We recently connected with Dennis Boseman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dennis, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Tattoo therapy is a deeply personal and transformative project that merges the art of tattooing with the healing power of self-expression. It serves as a form of emotional catharsis and self-discovery, allowing individuals to externalize their inner journeys through ink. This meaningful project goes beyond aesthetics, becoming a tangible symbol of one’s resilience, growth, and the strength to overcome challenges. It provides a unique opportunity to reclaim and redefine one’s narrative, offering solace and empowerment to those who undertake this therapeutic journey.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello my name is Dennis “Denny Michaels” Boseman. I own Nobility Tattoo in Austintown, Ohio and have tattooed for 20 years. I started tattooing when I was 16 years old, and my apprenticeship began in an actual basement. To be fair the basement was converted into a legal and safe tattoo shop, but that was a very humbling experience. Through many years of struggling with my own mental health issues and working with the community at large, I have a developed a deep passion for bringing awareness about brain health and the healing benefits of tattooing for treating trauma. My goal is to get research based tattooing to be accepted as a modality of treatment and ultimately have sessions covered by health insurance. With the the help of my partner, Christine Toporcer LPCC, we have created TATTOO THERPAY. TATTOO THERAPY asses for trauma, and with the clients insight, we create a unique tattoo experience that directly allows the client to work on healing their invisible wounds with trauma informed artists. We have found that most people relate tattooing with therapy and now we offer both services in one. We hope that more artists aim to become trauma informed and offer tattoo therapy to their clients . As we individually heal, our communities do as well.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to connect with people and really see them through some tough times with body art as the catalyst. I love adding value to peoples lives and tattooing allows me to continuously achieve that.

How did you build your audience on social media?
My best advice for anyone trying to build an audience is to offer solutions to big problems and be authentic. In this day and age, authenticity is rare and valued more than the fake and overly produced. Your content or approach doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to reach the right people and help add value to their lives. Don’t hesitate to get started and don’t be afraid to fail! There’s lessons in losses and loses propel us forward. Do your best to be your greatest version of yourself and stay consistent.
