We were lucky to catch up with Dennis Aliaksandrou recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dennis, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
I think, COVID-19 has become the most shocking and unexpected issue for the whole world, not only for creative professionals. It has radically changed our lives for the following years. During such stressful periods we need to take care of ourselves and our families more and also develop new business approaches. Getting accustomed to the new reality, I tried to find new opportunities for professional photography. Like many other people, first of all I got a lot of free time. And I decided to use it for skills improvement. Whatever you do for a living, there is always room for upgrade. So, I started to learn photography theory and other staff I found necessary for my professional growth.
After some time, the traditional weddings with numerous guests were still forbidden. But there were couples who were ready to consider elopements or intimate weddings instead. It was much safer and easier to organize. I also found out the main feature of elopement – it could be done on any day of the week. Unlike weddings, that usually happened on Friday or Saturday. I turned it into an advantage that allowed me to work on weekdays and to control my workload more effectively.
Working on these types of events, I noticed that people would like to share their happiness with others even though they were far away. I thought it was time when modern technology should help us. This is how we developed a live stream service for elopements and intimate weddings. Thus, your dearest people stayed safe and still could congratulate you on your special day.
I think these tough times taught us to appreciate our health and the presence of dear people in our lives. Talking about business, I learned to find new ways for my services and time for self-improvement.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Dennis, I am a professional photographer and the founder of CharlestonPhotoArt studio. For more than 10 years I’ve been capturing special moments for my clients. I began my career as a professional photographer in Europe, where I graduated from university with a major in Psychology. My Psychology degree, my own marriage, and my rich experience improved me as a photographer. Being able to find an approach to the clients, build trust and work together to get the most stunning pictures is truly amazing. I live with my beloved wife and kids in Charleston. We enjoy this picturesque place – perennially one of the top wedding destinations in the country.
I also have a team of professional photographers. They are dedicated experts who know how to create the lasting memories of your milestones with considerate individual approaches and the least hassle.
CharlestonPhotoArt’s mission is to fill every picture with personal emotions and great vibes.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Always remember that a photographer’s job includes communication not only with the clients, but also with other professionals. Take part in local professional meetings, communicate with other photographers and vendors. Wedding planners, florists, decorators – all of them form a professional community. If you know each other, you can get the necessary support and recommendations. A good photographer can be recommended by the wedding planner. In turn, you can also recommend reliable vendors to your clients. The professional environment is your main resource. That’s why your personal qualities are so important. They really can help you to get more experience and improve your skills.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding and beautiful aspect of my job is the ability to capture the best moments for the best people. All my clients are unique as well as their experience. And they hire me to preserve the special moments of their lives. Secret proposal, engagement, wedding, pregnancy, family or vacation photo sessions are very emotional and exciting. They are worth capturing. Everyone wants to remember these wonderful days. Yet, being overwhelmed during the special day, people feel like the time goes so fast. And happiness is so tender and fragile. I am happy to be there and catch smiles, happy looks and hugs. The years will pass, but the photos will stay with my clients, allowing them to reminisce about this delightful day.
