We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dennard Wright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dennard below.
Dennard, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Wright Water Works was established July of 2022 in my very own front yard. After my late dad blessed me with a pressure washer over 5 years ago, about a year or so before his passing, I had little to no knowledge of what all a pressure washer was capable of. I eventually used it once or twice a year to clean my rear patio. In late Spring of 2022, my machine sprung a major leak in the pump, and I just had to get it repaired, though the cost was higher than expected, because it had sentimental value. One of my neighbors was the type of neighbor that seemed to always need a service of some sort, so I kind of set it up to pressure wash my driveway one day so that she would see me doing so and inquire about it. The plan worked! She became my first client, which in turn allowed me to get more practice and experience. Soon thereafter, I began pressure washing neighbors’ and friends’ driveways and walkways. Seeing the instant return on my investment, I figured I might be onto something worth investing more time and effort into. I also quickly learned that there was more of a need for this service than I initially had knowledge of. I’ve always had a passion for transforming the appearance of things for the better and have since gained valuable knowledge and experience of the Pressure/Soft washing industry. Hence, the birth of Wright Water Works Pressure Washing, LLC.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been a personal trainer for over 15 years and love to help people reach their fitness goals. Unfortunately, when the pandemic happened, my business really took a hit. Being in this position was very uncomfortable for me, so I invested in a pressure washing business. I started out pressure washing neighbors’, friends’ and family’s driveways. Soon thereafter, I became a subcontractor for a landscaping company in addition to obtaining my own clients. Along the way I’ve invested in a pressure/soft washing online course and gained very valuable knowledge of the industry and proper methods to use when cleaning properties. I’ve learned that just because you have a pressure washing machine doesn’t mean that you use high pressure on every surface and that different methos of cleaning a surface are required depending on the surface type and what foreign matter is on the surface. I am very meticulous and pay close attention to detail when cleaning someone’s property. My approach is to take care of the customer’s property as if it were my own and go above and beyond to ensure that they’re satisfied with my service. Wright Water Works is not just a brand. It’s a part of me and I want to leave a legacy behind of doing business the Wright way!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve been in business for only a few months now and have had some ups and definitely some downs. Along the way, there were multiple occasions where I felt this is what I’m meant to be doing transitioning from my current career. However, there have been times where I’ve questioned myself and the business on rather or not I should continue to move forward and am I even cut out for this. Digital marketing and social media are the more popular ways of marketing now, which is a big adjustment for me. On days when I didn’t have customers, I’ve gone in person to businesses to try and win their business. Many times, the answer was no or that they’d get back to me. I’ve had plenty of potential customers that didn’t amount to an actual customer and that alone can be discouraging. Surely someone is going to say yes at some point, which keeps me motivated. Having met others in the industry and businesses similar to mine, I’ve been told and learned that you’re going to have some days when you want to give up, but not to. Life is full of challenges and there’s a very slim chance of being an overnight success, especially in this industry. Continually honing my skills is vital to the success of my business, so I constantly have to think of new ways to market and strategize each and every day.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Starting up any business is going to require an initial investment. Being that I already had a pressure washer and some accessories, I had some equipment to get started. Going forward, I learned about more tools necessary to increase my efficiency and make my business better. With that being said, I met with a banker and opened up a business account and credit card. In addition, I would reinvest my earnings back into the business for marketing purposes and equipment maintenance, repairs or upgrades. Until I have consistent income and leads, I plan on continuing to reinvest back into my business.
