Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Denita Gibbs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Denita , thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I knew something was different about me at 12 years old when my seven siblings and parents would have movie nights. Instead of me staying and watching them with my family; I would get up and leave because I did not want with viewing those movies to contaminate my spirit… LOL, so I choose to go to my room and pray. It was through pray the calling and birthing, I learned that life is all about worshiping God and coming to the realization that my “Yes” to God would cost me. Later in life, I experienced so many life obstacles, but it was God and my music that kept me going.
As a singer, songwriter, and artist. My songs are birthed through prayer and are expressions of my personal testimony of God’s power. My music ministry has led me to various arenas and opening performances for various artists but mainly Christian and Gospel genres. “Worship is my life.” My passion is to use my music ministry to lift up and edify the name of Jesus and lead others to him everywhere I go.

Denita , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
It would be great, if society would offer more Financial Assistance to support artists.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The road has not been smooth at all!
It’s been rough! I’m like God can I get a break! I got tired of being told I didn’t have what it took to be in the music industry, a certain weight size, and along with going through my personal insecurities and life challenges, I was facing at the time.
Most recently, I had COVID , which required me to be hospitalized for a month. After being discharged, I was required to have home health services for 4 months due to my body suffering with 4 blood clots to the lungs, double pneumonia , a mild heart attack as well as dealing with extreme depression, anxiety and panic attacks due to the aftermaths of COVID. I am so thankful and grateful to be alive. God is truly a Miracle worker in my life.
