We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Denisse Cano. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Denisse below.
Denisse, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
The idea originally came as a Mother’s and Graduation Day present. My mom had recently graduated from San Diego State University and I had decided to put together two things I thought she could enjoy. Beautiful flowers and a nice bottle of wine. I created a garland with the flowers and placed it above the closure of the wine bottle. After presenting the gift to my mom my aunt took me aside and expressed her belief that I should potentially transform this gift into a project. Acknowledging my creativity, she encouraged me to take action and explore the possibilities. From there I started creating these flower crowns on top of sparkling cider bottles and commenced selling them at graduations. I feel this was a simple gift that said so much in the way of being delightful, delicate, and beautiful. The gift is thoughtful and the presentation is as pretty as a picture.

Denisse, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
This design primarily focuses on the craft of a floral crown atop a bottle of bubbly. An intimate gift for any occasion in the means of celebrating. Flowers hold significant meanings and who wouldn’t fancy a bottled drink? A project regardless, I still see it as something with potential. To what? I’m not sure yet, we’ll see.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Ask. Just ask. I ask about every flower shop I go to where they find their resources. Not their best or their worst, just where. The same goes for the rest of my resources. Meet people, a lot can be obtained from asking a simple question.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When I started my plan I unlearned very quickly that failure is a sign of weakness. I have not had the misfortune of a dissatisfied experience and I’ve had helpful constructive feedback on my work and ideas. If and when that time comes when someone isn’t happy with my work I will ensure I can come back stronger from the discontentment.
