Hi Denisha, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I’m Denisha Cole, CEO/Founder of Well Groomed Men’s Care, and I’m on a mission to redefine grooming for men.
Recognizing the gap in an industry that predominantly caters to women, I created a line specifically for men, addressing the unique needs of black men dealing with ingrown hair. Our products—beard oil, beard/lip balm, growth stimulant, candles, and deodorant—are crafted with non-toxic, plant-based ingredients, emphasizing essential oils, carrier oils, and butters for a natural grooming experience.
Beyond the products, Well Groomed Men’s Care is about education. I want you to know why each ingredient matters, empowering you to make informed skincare choices. It’s not just about appearances; it’s about nurturing your overall well-being.
And here’s a sneak peek into the future: We’re gearing up for the future with a facial skincare line, featuring a cleanser, serum, and toner, designed to elevate your grooming routine.

My journey, from recognizing a market gap to passionately filling it with purpose-driven products, is the heart and soul behind Well Groomed Men’s Care. It’s not just about grooming; it’s about empowering you to embrace your best self.

Denisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been a label reader, anytime I would go to purchase skincare products, I always looked at the ingredients. I started making my own products for me and my daughter’s skin. I realized that women are catered to by the skincare and beauty industry. I didn’t want to create yet another product for women, but I wanted to do something for the fellas, I also wanted to make sure that the products met the needs of their skin, which is our biggest organ. What we put on our skin truly matters. Through my products, I also wanted to educate on each ingredient, so that men can make informed decisions and reap the benefits that the essential oil, carriers oils, and butters can bring to one’s skin, long term. The name “Well Groomed” is a nod to a holistic approach to grooming. It’s about more than just appearances; it’s about nurturing every aspect of your health and grooming needs. The emphasis on the word “Well” is my commitment to your well-being – inside and out.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I have a website (www.wgmcllc.com) where I sell my products, while also selling on Amazon, through their Black Accelerator Program. I’ve recently landed a B2B wholesale partnership with a local barbershop in the downtown area of my city. I’m looking to get more barbers on board. I truly like word-of-mouth sales and showing up at vendor events and barbershops so that they can see the woman behind the brand and I can express my passion for it and how it will benefit them. There is nothing like human contact and people getting to really see what my brand truly is about.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In April of 2022, I got accepted into the Goldman Sachs Black In Business Program. Incredible experience! I learned a lot and although I had established Well Groomed Men’s Care back in 2020, 6 weeks into the program I learned that although I was established there was so much I needed to know and follow through with on my business, during that program I had to start over and build from ground up. My business coach told me that she was proud of me for recognizing that I needed to step back and do more work. It’s easy to think we got it all figured out and when you find out you don’t, what do you do? Well for me I choose to take their advice because I believe in Well Groomed Men’s Care and I want it to be a success, a household name! There is still much work to do and funding to get to get Well Groomed Men’s Care soaring, but I’m here for the ride!
