Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Denisea Woodard Patterson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Denisea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
At a young age I took a liking to theater and dance. I use to host neighborhood dance workshops in my parent’s garage and pretend to sell out shows. The joy of being a kid! As I grew older my desire to perform got stronger and my parents finally enrolled me in a dance program. I’ve been on this journey now for over 20 years.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my dance journey at the age of 8 where I studied jazz, modern, and tap until becoming a dance captain in Highschool. I later graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Minor in Dance from Prairie View A&M University. I am an experienced dance teacher in styles such as Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip-Hop, Modern, and Liturgical style Praise Dance. My talents have granted me the opportunity to travel to states such as New York, Tennessee and Missouri to study and train with Master Dance Teachers from all over the world. I am currently an award winning choreographer who has been blessed to create masterpieces for numerous stage productions, competition routines and workshops. I am also the Artistic Director for Rising Stars
Academy of Dance & Performing Arts where I mentor and train dancers ages 3-18 years of age. When
I am not teaching I am traveling with the “Purpose with Passion International Dance Company” as a
dancer and lead choreographer teaching workshops and dancing on various platforms.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is seeing the progression of my work. I teach my students to see the beauty in it from start to finish.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew more about the SBA and their initiatives to help small business owners.
