We recently connected with Denise Spence and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Denise thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Grew up learning how to do hair on my own self , since the age of 7 and eventually practicing while attending cosmetology school. I recently graduated a year ago and decided that working in a salon was not for me and wanted to be my own boss.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I provide hair styling services, so that includes blowouts, haircuts, braids, natural hairstyles for curly hair , and hair coloring. I personally like to focus on clients with textured hair and providing the best quality service for them, Aside from that I also provide makeup services from natural to full glam, I have done two nyfw , shows this year so I also want to expand on that .

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is it’s okay not to have everything together all at once and to take your time , I’m not going to know everything.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I would still chose this since it’s what I love to do , and I would would not choose anything else
