We recently connected with Denise Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later?
I was a stay at home mom with two little ones, when an opportunity literally fell in my lap. I needed to help a little financially and I got a DSLR camera from a family member. I spent the next few months practicing. I launched my business in 2014. I wish I had started my photography business long before. I remember growing up always having a camera in my hand, watching my father, learning from him, taking pictures everywhere I could. I even won a Polaroid camera when I was 8yrs old.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Denise Johnson, I am a photographer specializing in Weddings, Family, Children, Events, Boudoir, and beyond. I started my photography business in 2014. I was a stay at home mom with two little boys, who kept me super busy. As a young child I always remember having a camera in hand, learning from my father, taking my own pictures, asking questions.
I have been in business for nine years and I am still growing and learning as much as I can in photography. I take every session and apply what I learn for future sessions.
I am super passionate about photography and super proud of how far I have come. I am most proud of every opportunity that comes my way.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect has to be taking my clients ideas and bringing them to life, creating that must have shot. My passion really shines through in the final photos. I love the excitement in my clients faces when they see their final photos, they share them with their family’s, use them for their Christmas cards, share on social media pages, and beyond. Their excitement is what drives me to keep me persevering and growing.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by continually sharing my business page as much as possible, on all social media platforms, including posts asking for photography referrals, asking clients to share my promtions, and to share my photography page.
For those just starting out, keep sharing your photos, your social media pages, and asking friends, and family to share. Have clients leave a review on your social media pages. Just keep persevering, pushing, striving to learn daily.
