We were lucky to catch up with Denise Higdon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Denise, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
WorkSite CARE Clinic’s mission is to take care of employees. How we do this depends on the unique needs and goals of each client. Everything we do is customized. On-site training and employee wellness programs are interactive, memorable, personalized, and improve life quality at work and home. We’ve seen the results of their commitment: she lost 30#, he can squat again, we created an ergonomic solution to help relieve shoulder pain, and employees are stretching as a team. New hire physicals at WorkSite CARE Clinic are position specific and ensure employees can physically do their work. Our assessments and insights change lives and help companies make informed decisions. Sometimes we find conditions that employees don’t even know exist. They go to their doctor, get it taken care of, and come back to complete their testing. Any time we see an employee, we are making their lives better. Our testing tells the employer and the employee they can safely do the job.

Denise, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been a licensed occupational therapist for over 30 years. When my employer restructured in 1999 and phased out the on-site injury prevention programs I developed and created, clients insisted these programs continue. Companies said they would pay me directly to continue these programs which paved my entrepreneurial journey and led to WorkSite CARE Clinic.
WorkSite CARE Clinic is 100% locally owned and is a certified woman owned business. We serve the greater Memphis industrial workers for their occupational healthcare needs. Our customers are employees who work in factories and plants, drive and operate heavy machinery, load and unload materials, deliver packages, fabricate products, perform repetitive tasks during product production, make or build things.
We understand all sides of worker’s compensation and are committed to our unique approach that focuses on taking care of the employee which ultimately benefits everyone. Each of our care plans is individualized and specific to that employee and their job. We only see industrial workers.
After 22 years in business, we finally officially said yes to our client’s requests to treat their employees’ acute work injuries to round out our service offerings.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I didn’t want to be in the injury care space. I’m a purist. I wanted to help businesses hire employees who could physically do their jobs, and help employees continue working safely through injury prevention trainings, wellness programs, and ergonomic solutions. This is my true passion. However, I repeatedly heard our customers ask us to take care of their employee’s injuries. I finally realized that in a way, non-traditionally, we had been doing this for clients for years. I knew we had amazing clinic space, a perfect location, and customers asking us to do acute injury services.
Although there are national injury care chains one mile from us, I wanted to be a local alternative for these services. I didn’t think we had the staff for this product. I entertained a local medical provider taking over, and through this process, realized no one could do this better than my team. And we would do it differently. So instead of offering up the business to another company, I staked our claim in Memphis as the only locally woman owned business to offer injury care, creating a new division to a seasoned business with loyal customers that we consider partners, and friends.
WorkSite CARE Clinic was born and launched in 2024 to tremendous potential and early success, primarily because people trust us to take care of them, employers, and employees. And we handle each one with great CARE.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Anyone who has met me knows I am real, genuine, a bit irreverent, yet with a heart that beats in sync with my customers and clients. You walk in my clinic and are transported with an initial conversation that makes you feel heard, motivated, and touched. I want to make a difference with each person who crosses my path. My clients and prospects are made to feel like family. I have always gone the extra mile, and that’s why I have clients from the top civic and government employers to the biggest fortune 500 companies calling my phone and our clinic. They know I care, and at the end of the day make them laugh!
